I need some DU help to convert a friend of mine...

A friend of mine votes Republican because he hates big Government. I need some articles that show the massive expansion of government under Bush, beyond Homeland Security because that never seems to pull Republicans back in our direction (they believe the agency is a neccesity).

1. Kerry is good on smaller govt

He supported Gramm-Rudman-Hollings back in the 80's, one of the few Dems who did so. He floated the idea of combining the Dept of Ed with the Dept of Labor to better target education to new needs in the labor market. He said the Dept of Ag could be cut in half by eliminating corporate ag subsidies. He's worked with John McCain on the Corporate Welfare Commission. He's actually been very good on reducing govt spending over the years.

but if you have any links to articles I can print up, it would be really handy. Thanks for the info though, if I can get articles on those I make a very solid plus case for Kerry.

I think the Energy Dept comment is probably in relation to the fact that it's become another corporate welfare program for big oil, etc.

The Patriot Act is nothing BUT big government. They can search your home without ever telling you. They don't even need a judge to OK it. They can hold you without charging you, indefinitely.

Gay Marriage? Abortion? Is anything more big government than telling people what decisions they must make for their bodies or what biological sex their partner must be?? How f-ing scary that we don't get to decide for ourselves. Ask him what he thinks about Howard Stern being pulled.

5. The FCC is a tough one..

Yeah on one hand they're censoring liberals but of course Repubs consider Stern crass, obnoxious, and dirty...

On the other hand they deregulated media consolidation so it looks as if they are against Government oversight.

Hard to argue for Stern with conservatives though.
