I have a wacky prediction: Lieberman will re-caucus with the GOP after November
Assuming a Democrat is elected in November--and assuming there's at least a one seat pick up in the Senate, too--I got a sinking suspicion that DU's favorite bête noire will get a bit noirer in the lame duck session, giving the Republicans a 51-50 voting majority for the last two months of the year. What harm? you may ask. Well, harms a plenty. A Republican senate might just allow Messrs Cheney & Bush to clean up some last minute business before handing the works over to terrorist sympathizers like Obama or Clinton. There's still a Democratic House, so legislation is not too likely. But the Senate alone confirms judges--including some possible anti-Bill of Rights looneys to the FISA courts--and approves treaties--leading to God knows what diplomatic mischief between us and the Maliki government.

Bush is hellbent on staking our troops to the Iraqi sand. Senator Lieberman may be just in the right position and frame of mind, come November, to do whatever he can to help pound that stake into the ground.

1. Stephanopolis asked him yesterday about his statements
about getting a Democratic congress in '06 and a Democratic president in 08' and Holy Joe took the Zell Miller route. "The Democratic party has changed".  Yeah you stayed the same, it's the party that's changed Joe..

2. Lieberman can do that, for all I care.
We don't lose control of the comittees or senate leadership, per the conditions of this session's senate organizing agreement.

And a republican favored 51-50 senate (cheney included) would get about as much done as a democratic favored 51-50 senate.

That is, nothing.

3. "re-caucus with the GOP"?
I don't think he ever caucused with the GOP.

6. Right. He caucused with the Democrats. But like Jeffords, he can switch caucuses at any time
That's what I meant by "re-caucus". I assumed "re-caucus" was an original coinage. I wasn't implying he ever voted for the Republicans. I'm just playing off of the way he's been steadily drifting toward them on so many issues (besides the environment and abortion rights).

10. ah, I see what you mean
I don't think he'd do that unless the GOP were in the majority.

4. and the senate requires more than 51 to do anything
His flipping would not change anything.
The only thing that number influences is who gets the majority Leadership, and committee chairs. Even if they bothered to rejigger that based on his flipping, which they would not, nothing would happen as a result.

7. Won't matter. But yes of course he will officially switch.
He can caucus anywhere he wants but the rules and assignments are fixed until the next congress. Fuck him.

8. FIRST OF ALL
We will pick up at least 2 seats which would make it 53-47 (52-48 if lieberweasel switches) so it wont matter. Im wondering why the hell we havent thrown him out of the caucus

13. Does he hold any important seats or committee heads?
That would be a factor. If the Democrats allowed him to hold on to his clout, then he'll continue to pretend to caucus with the Dems. If the GOP offered him something to switch, he probably would.

15. I Half Expect Lieberman
to be the VP pick with McLame.
They have to do something drastic.
Could a bi-partisan ticket be their plan?
