WHY HILLARY WON’T QUIT
Edited on Thu Apr-03-08 07:51 AM by Life Long Dem
Is Dick Morris onto something? Dick Morris is saying Hillary can't or won't get out of the race because she is in debt and owes too much money. On Fox News I also heard him suggest maybe Obama will make a deal where he somehow has Obama supporters raise the money for her on his say and she won't attack him and then drop out once the money is there.

WHY HILLARY WON’T QUIT

Hillary Clinton’s campaign currently owes vendors $8 million, exclusive of the $5 million she owes herself. She cannot use general election money to pay for this debt. If she begins to be anything less than certain that she will stay in up to the convention, she won’t raise any money and will be stuck with the debt. She also realizes that it is only by projecting an almost manic air of certainty that she has any chance at all of hanging onto super delegates. The first whiff they get of a withdrawal, they will all run screaming to Obama to get on the late train. Don’t think that Hillary is delusional. She knows she’s lost but she has no choice but to play the rest of the game. To fold now would leave her in an untenable situation.

1. It makes more sense than anything else I've heard
She clearly has no chance of winning, and the funds are already drying up, though. Who, exactly, would this strategy fool?

3. Verrrrry interesting situation
What happens when a campaign ends with a mountain of debt?
Does the campaign file bankruptcy? Is the candidate personally liable?
Certainly it doesn't look like Hillary's gonna get her $5 MM back.

Hmm... follow the money indeed!

4. Kind of like going all in on a bad hand with no possible bluff.
How does this help? In order to stay in with enough credibility to convince her supporters to donate she has to spend more money than she is raising - she has to go further into the hole. The strategy is to throw the kitchen sink at Obama and then demand a payout to go away? Actually I just convinced myself that might work. Yuck.

6. Maybe O'liely has a script of Morris for yesterday as well.
But Morris was throwing around a deal Obama can make with her. Saying if he had his supporters throw some money toward Hillary, maybe she will lay off and be able to pull out. But why not let her sink in debt?

5. If this is true (and it sounds plausible), then Hillary donors are played for suckers. nt

11. Hey to get her off Obama's back. Some would do just about anything.
But I say let her sink with debt!

12. I personally know of three different contractors in our little area here in Iowa
who are still owed money by the Clinton campaign and campaign will not respond to their billing requests. In a conversation about this yesterday, one person commented that there was no reason to believe that Hillary would reimburse anyone in Iowa since Iowans did not vote for her and that she was willing to punish the states who did not. Don't yell at me...I'm just telling you about what I am aware of and passing on the comment of one frustrated person.

Giuliani would be the Repug nominee, that Condi would be the Repug nominee, that Hillary would be the Dem nominee--he's always right!

16. ouch
well if this is true, then I would humbly suggest that this is another good time to encourage Obama supporters (that includes me, since Edwards dropped out) to avoid gloating; I consider it a Republican trait to taunt the loser. I remember it well from 2000 and 2004. I still carry anger about those thefts.

I think we should show more class than that. Again, that's just my 2 cents
