1. "You cannot be serious!"
No wonder I always preferred Johnny Mac and all that touch to robotic Pete Sampras, one of the alltime pukers.

And I'll always wonder what would have happened if McEnroe's 2000 choice, Bill Bradley, had snagged our nomination.

2. I am really surprised and happy about this!
I always figured John was a Repub., but with all his faults, as a tennis nut, I've always liked him. I'm really glad to hear he's one of us!

Hey, Sampras may be a puke, but he's a gentleman and a great player. Agassi, by the way, calls himself an independent. I suspect he leans our way, though.

What gives you the impression Sampras is a puke? If he is, he's never donated squat to them.

15. Sampras also called Michael Kinsley a "chirping bird"
Kinsley was the lefty Crossfire host who departed years ago to write for Slate.com.

In the early '90s I read an interview in which Sampras detailed his rightwing leanings. He said he loved to watch Crossfire and have Buchanon or Novak chop up "Michael Kinsley, that chirping bird."

At that point I rooted against Sampras with a passion, always fruitless at Wimbledon but I did enjoy the last few years of his career, other than that final U.S. Open.

Seen him having dinner with Dennis Miller and thought perhaps they'd BOTH joined the Dark Side.

11. CNBC was supposed to air a John McEnroe show weeknights,
CNBC was supposed to air a John McEnroe show weeknights, to balance the "Dennis Miller Show."

For some reason, they haven't.

13. Maybe they figure
airing Dennis Miller's show constitutes its own balance, in a perverse kind of way.

Edited on Wed Jun-02-04 05:00 AM by AwsieDooger
So it will definitely be on, and fairly soon. Let's hope McEnroe serves up political astuteness that coincides with his donations, and as lethal as that backhand volley of yesteryear.

Ross Perot gave $2000 to Bush this year!

I think it's time for him to break out those effin' charts again and have a look at the deficit.

21. Great, El Cranky One can teach us how to alienate and antagonize.
I used to love Mac as a kid but upon closer examination and after thumbing his last book, he suffers from bouts of self importance.
