OK!! Let's keep the Kerry/McCain story alive as long as possible
This is the first time I've started a thread that is a take-off on another thread, and I hope the gods will forgive me.

But I seriously think that the more play the idea of a Kerry/McCain ticket gets, the better it is for our guys. It shows not just Kerry, but all democrats as being reasonable people who can play well with others -- and holds to the light the republican "you're either for us or against us" mindset.

The longer the story plays, and the more people hear it, the better Kerry looks - no matter who he picks.

Just think of what this story does to people's view of Kerry compared to what would happen if the story was that Kerry was thinking of getting Jane Fonda as VP.

You see the point?

This horse has been beat to death over and over and over and over again.

Give it a rest!!!!!

5. In a word
no.

McCain is a republican. I cannot help but think of how Cohen screwed Clark - and Clinton. Don't want McCain, a republican as VP or as SOD.

2. I see your point.

But I don't think people want to talk about it on boards that are supporting a democratic candidate--for many reasons, not the least of which is that many prefer to have President Kerry alive for more than a couple of days into his presidency.

But what you're suggesting is that we keep the idea alive to keep the Repugs on their toes.

I don't know. I think it's time to stop being coy myself--wouldn't want to be accused of flip-flopping, would we? And Kerry would probably do better with undecideds and discontented Republicans if he just shot straight.

3. or John McCain could endorse John Kerry ... country first, etc.
Edited on Fri May-28-04 07:10 AM by cosmicdot
... or he continue to stand firm by his men George Bush and Dick Cheney and the traitor-NEOcon-PNAC-rightwing thinktank-espionage-graft-cronyism train they ride on ...

he should chose our cause to rescue and save this country; not vice versa

4. Good point.
And that's what irks me about McCain--he comes so near the line he almost crosses over, but then starts spouting off about his support for Dim Son again.

:argh:

6. I see your point and I agree it's clever.
I understand it, and I won't bitch about it. I've always said it's a smart idea. I think where people start objecting is it makes them look like Republicans, and it seems like they care more about that then whether or not a Republican actually ends up in the White House.

I've got my own stuff against McCain, but in keeping with the thread, I won't mention it here.

So everybody be quiet about this one already. It's not gonna happen anyways.

8. If we play with ANYONE fer chrissakes
It should be with the PROGRESSIVES. Why give ANYONE from the right wing any idea at all that we can accomodate their viewpoint?

Oh, I forgot the website I'm posting on. This is actually discussed logically here.

14. Capn Sunshine -- shining the ray of ENLIGHTENMENT
Cripes, I seriously can't believe how much play this brain-dead issue is getting-- from the press, I can understand since they're basically brain-dead. But to hear this bullshit from DEMOCRATS on a supposedly progressive discussion board.......

It's a huge fucking insult to ALL Democrats to even SUGGEST we "need" a Repub on the ticket to "win". If that's the case, why not just VOTE FOR SHRUB-- since he already HAS at least one Rethug on his ticket already.

The Dems wanna win so bad? Why not get the same folks who voted for Gore and/or Nader in 2000. That is a margin of victory that's TAMPER PROOF. But, instead, the DLCers want to continue selling their souls to the supposed "moderates" who'd just as soon take their corporate tax cuts and run as support your nominee.

I'm just glad these McCain backing "Democrats" don't own guns. They'd be shooting their damned feet clean off with every move.

9. Play well with others?
Hell, the republicans already know that they can steamroll over most of the wimpy, surrender monkey middle of the road stand for nothing Democrats. Bending over and grabbing your ankles isn't showing the playground bully how we can play well with others. I doubt if it looks that attractive to the dead armadillo in the middle of the road "swing voters" either. "Hey, let's go join the weaklings and bend over for the bully, too!"

What would be attractive is a strong leader who could unite the kids on the playground to make a stand for what is right and just (real traditional progressive liberal democratic values).

Bullies are looking for victims, not adversaries.

10. The longer is stays alive, the weaker it makes Kerry look, IMO.
It makes him look like some imbecile who needs a Republican to make him 'viable'.

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD idea!
