A prime time Kerry news conference - talk stratight to the people?
Edited on Fri May-28-04 11:01 PM by nu_duer
Things like this have bothered me all of my life - me vs. my parents, friends vs. bullies, love vs. hate - and it seems in all cases that if people would just open their minds and accept reason that, well, we could all finally move past our points of conflict and progress to greater things.

And that's my thinking here. We are at a point of crisis in this nation, I don't have to tell anyone here, and I think there is a growing sense across America that at some point during the last three years, we have lost our way as a nation.

In that assessment, there is a clear solution, imho. If John Kerry can convince the networks to air a prime time news conference in which he would come out and simply be blunt with America - list the crimes of bushco, list the damage done, remind everyone of America's true greatness, and offer a plan to bring that back - if the networks agreed to air that OR if his campaign simply bought a half-hour of prime time from each of the big nets, would this not seal the deal already?

Just giving THE PEOPLE some straight talk, appealing to the reason of the voters - in one huge dose right now - would blow this whole thing right out of the water.

Or so it seems to me.

1. Too Risky
A no-holds barred press conference is just the thing you and I would relish, but it's probably too risky. The right wingers jump on everything Kerry says, and twist it out of shape. They called Gore's sensible, impassioned speech "crazy" and proof of Gore's unfitness for high office. In an environment like that, a blunt-talk press conference is dangerous.

2. last minute reprieve - kick

thought I'd give this a kick because it's only one more new post away from dropping into the archives and un-repliable for ever. Kinda like a last minute reprieve before the DP.

Besides, the post has an interesting behind it. I also think it would be risky, but the first thing he did this campaign is when he called the Bush's campaigners a bunch of liars and then refused to apologize. IT WAS GREAT, and I'd like to see more of that from Kerry,
