17. No, Obama is SMART to get right on this. You'd think HRC and McCain shared the same operatives by
the way they are "all over him" at the same time for comments on "division within the party" made at a fundraiser FIVE (5x) days ago? :wow: If I didn't know better, I'd think that HRC and McCain are as thick as thieves ... it's deplorable. :(

Even the damn Clinton News Network (CNN) during Lou Dobbs had the words "Obama Slams Small Towns" ... this is such bullshit. He was explaining the bitterness of people in small towns but he was NOT SLAMMING those people.

I'm so sick of this "gotcha politics" from HRC, McCain and the GOP in Pennsylvania in general.

I'm THRILLED that he's addressing this at 8:15. Let's consider K & R and keeping this kicked up?

Go Obama! We've got your back. :patriot: :hi:

23. Obama is not smart
and I'm glad we're getting a chance to see him for what he really is.

He uses a veneer of arrogance and lofty rhetorical skills to give people the impression he's very bright. Manipulating people isn't the same as being intelligent.

These kinds of faux pas show Obama isn't as bright as people would think, he's just good at controlling his message.

Edited on Fri Apr-11-08 07:40 PM by ShortnFiery
Yes, let's all instead, revert to Junior High School tactics of "gotcha?"

It's going to be very difficult for me to even LIKE Senator Clinton in the future because she jumped on and accused Obama of being "condescending." IMO, HRC is all about "condescension."

I'm so sick of these THUG-LIKE tactics where a person has to FULLY explain something that, if taken in context, is fully understandable.

I HATE THE MEDIA MOST, especially CNN. I know what to expect from FOX but CNN blows chunks. :puke:

If by the Grace of God, Obama becomes our Democratic Nominee, nobody can say that he was NOT fully TESTED. :grr:

45. we are seeing hillary for what she is....trying to manipulate the people of Pennsylvania
her devious attempts will not work, this will just give him the spotlight...and he will use it to show how hillary betrayed working americans by supporting the bankruptcy bill that the credit card companies were salivating over. Her attempts to conceal from the people of Ohio and Pennsylvania her long support for NAFTA while her mouth keeps telling us that she was always against it.

"of course they're bitter, of course they're frustrated"
"nobody is looking out for you, nobody is thinking about you."

"it took John McCain 3 tries to notice that the foreclosure crisis is a problem
and he says I'm out of touch".

Hitting Clinton on Bankruptcy bill - "and I'M out of touch?"

People are angry and bitter and frustrated and thats why I'm running.

Clintons have PROVED their loyalty - deep-sixing BCCI matters throughout the 90s without many citizens noticing? Now THAT was worth the trust of the Dubai and Saudi royals - and worth the tens of millions they are putting into Clintons' bank accounts these days, too.

62. jackson, i assume that you're playing stupid to try to keep this controversial but
he clearly explained everything. Rural voters are voting against their economic interests because Democrats and Republicans are both falling short on their promises to fix things (hence the bitter part). So they vote on others (cling to) issues like guns and religion (abortion, homosexuality, etc).

78. He dealt with the entire thing. He said that because politicians have been making economic promises
for decades and those promises never actually come true (paraphrasing), it doesn't get better so people vote on other issues - guns, gay marriage, and they take refuge in their religion and family because those are the only things they can count on AND people are bitter and frustrated with the economy, jobs, wages, etc. He is in touch with people in Penn and Indiana and Illinois ... People are bitter.

He did not run away from the bitter comment. Frankly, people are pissed now and it is ridiculous to say they aren't.

Of course true believers are going to think he hit a home run. In actuality, if what I read is accurate, he didn't answer the fundamental issue. This has nothing to do with Clinton or McSame. The question is simple: is Obama out of touch with common folks, or even worse bigoted toward them?

43. ROUGH TRANSCRIPT >>>
Edited on Fri Apr-11-08 07:46 PM by Stephanie
When I talk with people there is frustration and there is anger and there is bitterness. I was in SF talking to a group at a fundraiser, and someone asked me, "how are you going to get votes in PA, we heard it's hard for working class people to get behind your campaign."

They've seen their jobs shipped overseas, their economies collapse, they've lost their jobs, they've lost their healthcare, and of course they're bitter, of course they're frustrated - you would be too! In fact many of you are! We've seen the same thing happen in Decatur, the same thing happen in ___, because the same thing's happening to YOU, and (people have given up on getting any help from Washington - paraphrased, missed that part) so you see them voting on guns, on the right to bear arms, the right to gay marriage, they vote on their faith issues, they (vote on these issues because they've lost faith in getting any change on the economic issues - paraphrase).

Now here's what's rich. Sen. Clinton says, "I don't think people are biitter in PA, Barack's being condescending," McCain says "he's out of touch," Out of touch? It took him (months to notice that people were losing their homes, and he says I'm out of touch? - paraphrase).

Sen Clinton voted for a credit card sponsored bankruptcy bill after taking money from financial services industry and she thinks I'm out of touch? No, I'm in touch. People are angry, they're bitter, they're frustrated and they want to see a change ion Washington. That's why you're here, because you want to see change. That's what this campaign is about. We said we're not going to take PAC money, we're not gong to take lobbyist money. How did we do it? We did it with you, (in small donations). And that's why you know I'm accountable to you.

He really did hit that really well - I would imagine that some of the people who have had a hard time will appreciate him actually admitting that there is a problem - in a way, praising people and telling them their communities have no problems - when they do has to just seem phony compared to this.

46. I thought this was no big deal? Why would he have to make a special appearance
on CNN if he was just speaking truth to the powerless?

Edited on Fri Apr-11-08 07:46 PM by 1776Forever
we don't have a problem with the comment! It is ridiculous and only something they are trying to divert his support in PA because they (Clinton/McCain/Repub's/Corporatist s) are all trying to defeat him! They know he is winning!!!!

Obama supporters are saying it ain't working this time!!!!!!!!!!

57. The damn Clinton News Network had "Obama Slams Small Towns" in it's window bottom.
During Lou Dobbs, that damn subtext remained there for almost the entire hour.

He was at a regularly scheduled campaign rally.

It was damn smart of Obama to "nip this in the bud."

Clinton, McCain and the Pennsylvania GOP all came out at seemingly THE SAME TIME trashing Obama for being "condescending and elitist." If I didn't know better, I'd swear that this was a well orchastrated attack from all three working together.

Good for Obama for geting ON THIS right away. :applause:

59. He's NOT making a special appearance on CNN. He has a town hall now and he addressed
it during THAT. And he knocked it out of the park.

I think they SHOULD carry speeches like this LIVE because otherwise all we hear is commentary by biased anchors about stupid shit all day.
