I was in KARL ROVE'S face today!!!!!!
We found out he was coming to town for a fundraiser in a gated community here (Las Vegas) so about 35 of us went out with signs to protest. As it happens, I saw him first as the SUV he was riding in turned in from the street. I went absolutely nuts (purely involuntarily and viserally) and started screaming, "It's him, it's him!" like a nutcase and waving my sign, which said "Peace is Patriotic." He smiled at me (I am going to take about 10 showers) and gave me a thumbs up, the arrogant bastard! I was really the only one he saw close up, because they whisked him into the gate double quick. He was there and gone so fast no one else really got to do anything. One of my friends said it was the funniest thing he had ever seen the way I was screaming "Rove, Rove, Rove" at the back of that SUV as it went through the gate. And it felt soooooo good to scream at Rove...and we have Cheney coming to town next Sunday, so he's next on my list! I think I will make a nice Chickenhawk sign for his viewing pleasure.

18. Hmm... You sure that wasn't a stubby little middle finger?
Of course, being Rove, he can appear to support several positions at once.

3. Again With the Thumbs-Up
That's not the first time I've heard a reference to the thumbs-up sign here today. Perhaps it's time for some research. BTW, congratulations on ferreting out Rove.

So, he's fat? hmmmm

Maybe next time...............FLASH HIM Wonder how he'd react to that! You could paint/write something informational on your bared part(s) lol Wonder if he'd give ya the thumbs up then.

Oh,oh,oh,oh...an afterthough here. If Cheney is coming, I have an idea. I saw something on another website. It was a "carton of milk" thingy with a missing persons image...the image was Cheney's daughter...what's here name? The words said: Missing, have you seen--*then her name*. You could put THAT on a sign and wave it in front of Cheney.

What are all of these neocon fundie types doing in "Sin City" anyway? lol

17. I'm glad it made you feel good.
But ...in the big picture it didn't change anything.
You would have been better off spending your time making calls for JFK,sending letters to JFK supporters, etc....
I'm glad you enjoyed it...but that kind of campaigning rarely changes any votes.
Put your energy into something that does.

19. I beg to differ with you....
We had plenty of Kerry signs there, and also Yucca mountain, anti-war, etc. And I put plenty of energy into other things...I work for Kerry, as well as working full-time on a Congressional campaign here in Nevada District 3, to unseat the one Rove was raising money for. And there were plenty of people driving by on the street honking their horns and waving. I believe it is good for people to see others out doing something like that, it gives them hope. I consider this occasion to be like a job perk....I work VERY hard for Democratic candidates, and I DESERVED to go blow off some steam at Rove.

BTW, I also spent 6 months of my life being a mod here during the most difficult time ever on DU...this past Democratic primary season, so I don't need any lectures about where to put my energy, thank you very much.

20. I'm not giving you a lecture.....
Edited on Sun Jun-13-04 03:18 AM by notbush
Please don't think I meant your time protesting CR is wasted.
However, it's not unlike the 100's of thousands of people who protested the U.S. going to war in Iraq.
I personally believe that a letter, a phone call,or an e-mail would have been more effective.
Congressmen and senators receive a relatively few communications from their constituents. (They tend to throw out, or ignore mass e-mails with the same wording, and names on a petition.)
A simple snail-mail from a voter(x1000) is more powerful, than 10,000 protesters from god knows where.
Put your energy where it has the MOST effect.
This fat white slug stuff, won't get us any votes(Too many americans Are Fat White Sluggs).... I suggest you don't waste your energy on that.

21. Excuse me.....
but you are not only lecturing me...you are talking down to me. I write letters ALL THE TIME. Why don't you spend your energy telling these things to someone who doesn't know them? And thank you so much for trying to take away my good feeling about getting in Rove's face. It was not a waste of time, if for no reason other than it made a whole group of Dem activists feel great for an hour or two on a hot Saturday.

22. Yes you are giving a lecture, and your actions do not flatter you.
Also, everything you wrote is wrong.

Congressmen and senators receive a relatively few communications from their constituents.

:wtf: What a totally uninformed and incorrect statement.

A simple snail-mail from a voter(x1000) is more powerful, than 10,000 protesters from god knows where.

Really? According to what? Is this based on some research or something, or is it just what you want to believe?

who is certain that Soros is corrupt, but won't tell us anything about what Soros did that was corrupt. Now he wants to argue that protesting is useless.

26. Dissing Nixon to his face at the '73 inaugural parade.
Your Rove encounter is terrific, and a neat memory.

I had a similar experience. Back during the Vietnam era, everybody--literally everybody--below the age of 30 or so was seriously bummed out about Nixon's blowout of McGovern in the '72 election. We Vietnam Vets Against the War planned a demonstration at the inaugural parade--along with other peace groups.

But nobody could get the "permits" needed to "peaceably assemble" for protests. So the peace groups decided to have a separate protest, half a mile away from the parade route, in front of the Lincoln Memorial. I was furious about that. My brother and I went. When we got there, we were able to persuade about 300 vets to join us and reposition ourselves over along the parade route so we could rain on Nixon's parade a little. We were all dressed in combat fatigues. We took over a complete bleacher section at the far corner of the turn onto 15th St. But we had to leave our protest signs behind.

Nixon approached, standing up in a convertible, waving, with a waxen smile on his face. He had so much makeup on he barely looked human.

I was furious about that bastard's false promise to end the war, and wanted to do something besides yell. It suddenly dawned on me to initiate the Nazi salute. So we started it. Pretty soon all several hundred of us were giving him the Nazi salute, and chanting loudly: "Sig Heil!"

Nixon looked over in our direction, with his big plastic smile, and began waving, then suddenly realized what we were doing, and the smile completely fell away. He actually sat down for a minute or so. It was a wonderful moment.

The real thrill was that when I got home, my wife told me our little "protest" was all over the news that evening.

31. Yes, we made the news, too....
the local Fox channel, of all things! It was great, too! I had typed up a fact sheet on Rove, and titled it "Karl Rove/Bush's Brain" on behalf of my Congressional candidate, and they led the story with "The man they call "Bush's Brain was in town today...." and they showed a lot of our signs, and our big gasoline cans that said "Can Bush" and they also interviewed our Congressional candidate, who is a progressive and doesn't get as much media as his Demorcratic rival, the Republican-lite former CEO who went to a Bush fundraiser here last fall and gave Bush $2000. It was great to get some media for our guy, as well as have an opportunity to be critical of Bush on the local news!
