Bull$hit, Their was no Terrorist Plot in Ohio
As most of you know a Terrorist suspect was arrested today in a plot to blow up a shopping mall in Columbus, Ohio. See Article link Below. All I really have to say is how convenient that a Terror plot was unfurled in the #1 battleground state. I guarantee that this man is a scapegoat and if being used as a political tool. Bush is out in full force trying to sway Ohio voters into thinking that his administration is protecting them. A$hKKKroft is using this man and the Patriot act to re-elect Shrub, I can't stand this administration, the fucking slim will burn in hell!!

1. Another way to look at it: some patriotic, democracy-loving FBI agents...
...just prevented an October surprise.

10. hey, give Buckeyes some credit for having some sense.
I doubt that this incident is going to make much difference. Those who think * is a great leader will continue to do so, but others will interpret this incident more skeptically.

4. An "unidentified" mall no less.
Sheesh. I agree, this is a crock. Prepare yourselves. We'll have an arrest a month until Nov. Probably in ALL of the battleground states. :eyes:

8. From the John Ashcroft "Inducing Fear on Americans" Handbook, page 322
Edited on Mon Jun-14-04 07:53 PM by zulchzulu

From the book:
Page 322

Using an Unknown Mall Attack to Induce Public Fear

In order to induce fear, send out a press and news release that a person of color with a Muslim name had been trained by Al Qaeda. Make sure to mention that the person was from a small town, preferably from a swing state during an election year.

Mention in the news and press release that the person had been trained in guerrilla tactics, bomb making and general terrorist capability. You will not need to mention the name of the mall. You don't really need to even mention the town, although if there is a town with multiple mall complexes, you can name the town. Every town will be afraid. It will make the news. Malls will never be the same.

Release the news and press release that the mall "invasion" was foiled by your organization. You don't need to mention who was responsible, since that could lead to an investigation where legitimate proof would be needed.

Finally, make sure to deny at all costs that you are willing to share information leading to the foiled attempt. Ensure that telling any information about the event would jeapordize national security.

Make sure to get the name of the person who inquired on the truth and authenicity about the event and have them investigated immediately.

9. not to nitpick, but Cols. is hardly a small town
It's the largest city in one of the most populous states in the US.

11. Interesting line in the Krugman article
From http://www.nytimes.com/2004/06/15/opinion/15KRUG.html?pagewanted=print&position=

(Snip)
Perhaps most telling is the way Mr. Ashcroft responds to criticism of his performance. His first move is always to withhold the evidence. Then he tries to change the subject by making a dramatic announcement of a terrorist threat.

(Snip)

For an example of changing the subject, consider the origins of the Jose Padilla case. There was no publicity when Mr. Padilla was arrested in May 2002. But on June 6, 2002, Coleen Rowley gave devastating Congressional testimony about failures at the F.B.I. (which reports to Mr. Ashcroft) before 9/11. Four days later, Mr. Ashcroft held a dramatic press conference and announced that Mr. Padilla was involved in a terrifying plot. Instead of featuring Ms. Rowley, news magazine covers ended up featuring the "dirty bomber" who Mr. Ashcroft said was plotting to kill thousands with deadly radiation.

(Snip)
The memo came out late Sunday. Mr. Ashcroft called a press conference yesterday — to announce an indictment against a man accused of plotting to blow up a shopping mall in Ohio. The timing was, I'm sure, purely coincidental.
