{1} In an Errol Louis article ("Obama on the mark") in the April 14 NY Daily News, we read that during the months of December, January, and February, there were more than 400 mass lay-offs. He notes that on a Fox news report on Obama’s "bitter" comments, a republican from Allentown spoke about how things have changed since he moved there in 1961. He spoke about more than 40 stores closing, along with industries. He said that people there are bitter, and that he was planning to vote for John McCain. Louis viewed this as evidence that Barack Obama was "on the mark" with his analysis.
In response, one fellow called "jonnie" posted this statement:
VOTERS ARE SICK OF HEARING FROM EVERY BLACK POLITICAN/SO-CALLED PREACHER AND SO-CALLED JOURALIST DEFENDING THE RACIST OBAMA AND WRIGHT. THE MEDIA CAN TOUT ALL THE BOGUS LIES THEY WANT...IT’S VOTERS WHO MAKE THE DECISION AND WE ARE MORE EDUCATED THAN YOU GIVE CREDIT! OBAMA IS NOT WRIGHT TO LEAD OUR COUNTRY AND WE WILL NOT VOTE FOR HIM!!!! by Jim Kouri, CPP vice-president of the National Association of Chiefs of Police Exclusive: Obama Connection to Terrorists Revealed by Talk Show Host March 22, 2008 Interesting article on Obama and his supposed links to terrorism: theconservativevoice.com/article al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden is praying for an Obama victory because it would help the militants win in Iraq
{2} In the April 14 Binghamton, NY Press & Sun-Bulletin, a Pennsylvania resident has a guest op-ed that speaks of the benefits of Barack Obama’s candidacy. He writes that he feels that Obama is today trying to build upon the work that Martin Luther King, Jr., was engaged in during his lifetime.
In response, a human being calling himself "rabidrodent" said:
"Never fear, Jeremiah Wrights non stop blathering will kill candidate Osama by November, it has already severely damaged him."
Conclusion: The "experts" on the cable news shows can debate if there are really "bitter" citizens, but the fellow from Allentown shows there are. Some are republicans, some are democrats. Some will vote for McCain, others for Obama. The discussions about "bitterness" and related issues also brings other more hateful people to the surface. Certainly "jonnie" and the rabid rodents are not democrats, and are not representative of the people of places like Binghamton or the communities of Pennsylvania. Rather, they are the slime that feels comfortable crawling out from under a rock because of the climate of hatred that the Bush-Cheney administration has encouraged for the past 7 years.
The value of these types of "comments" is that the vast majority of Americans will reject them outright. People of good will are repulsed by such appeals to hatred.
