"Bitter as hell in Pennsylvania"
Bitter as hell in Pennsylvania

Folks agree with Barack Obama in at least one Pennsylvania trailer park. But will angry voters help or hurt Democrats in swing states this fall?

By Mike Madden

April 16, 2008 | EXETER, Penn. -- Shawn Erfman lives in a trailer park, listens to Rush Limbaugh and voted for George W. Bush -- twice. Over the weekend, he heard all about what Barack Obama had to say about "bitter" Pennsylvanians like himself. And he's mad as hell.

Not at the guy you might expect, though. "It's fucking true," he said Monday night. "Everybody's bitter for one reason or another. So they're crucifying him because he spoke the truth? Cause he's not saying something that's going to suck up to people and kiss ass? Because, what, he slipped and accidentally spoke the truth, instead of kissing butt?"

2. The problem is most people don't want to hear the truth from candidates.
They want to hear that they are right and all their problems will go away.

5. The problem many people have is this..
Just naming it, does not make it go away.. Ignoring it, hiding it, covering it up is what human nature tells us to do.. Hide the ugly..

Until you confront the ugly, you can never fight it..

My friend with cancer told me once that the "best time of day" for her is the few minutes after she first wakes up..when she "forgets" that she has cancer....and then she sees all the bottle of pills & the scars and from that moment on, she cannot "put it away"..

6. I'm not surprised.
The two other candidates are hopelessly out of touch. They just proved it beyond a shadow of a doubt, by bashing Obama for daring to mangle his words while recognizing the frustration of so many people.

And what lovely irony, for them to both try to stick the "elitist" label on him while doing so...

10. I was wondering when this guy's demographic would come out.
There's a pile of folks out there who are hard core and will tell you they're tired of "all the shit". And yes, they listen to Rash and are angry overall. Used to work with one. They rail on and on during the RW radio talk shows and alot of them have grown to hate Bush with a passion (and they don't like McCain). This type of guy may not vote in any primary or may just sit home for all elections... but if someone got his attention in the Democratic Party, maybe that is a good thing for the Dems in the GE.

11. Sums it up for me. There wasn't a thing he said that wasn't true...
People do cling to wedge issues when they can't control things like jobs going overseas. Politicians come in and distract from the real issues and the media shills for a candidate trying to score political points by using happy talk to persuade people that "she's" the more compassionate candidate of the two.

Obama spoke the truth! And he didn't go in there and lie. The Republicans and the Clintons are scared of an Obama president. Why? Because he will work on behalf of the American people. He will be transparent. What, someone looking at how government works? They can't afford that. The only elites on the ballot are McCain and Clinton... each of whom have some 100 million dollars in their proverbial pockets.
