DUers who "won't vote for Obama" are NOT progressives
The Democratic party has been sustained by the African American vote. Do you think there are no African Americans who earn high five and six figures who would love those Republican tax breaks but support the people's party because they understand that when all boats rise it's better for everyone.

Did they desert the Democrats when Jocelyn Elders and Jesse Jackson and Lani Guinier were thrown under the bus by the Clintons? Or when Bill decided to execute a mentally retarded black man to boost his credentials with the haters? No! They sucked it up for the good of the party. Well here's the skinny you Hillary die-hards. Go ahead and abstain or vote for McCain if your favorite doesn't make it. African Americans know exactly why your candidate went to grovel at the feet of Rush Limbaugh and Dick Scaife and Sean Hannity. Thankfully the country is more enlightened than some here who call themselves progressives.

Here are the cold hard facts:

Over a month after voting in the primary, more Democrats here now say they have a positive view of Obama than of Clinton (78 percent to 74 percent)—a shift, experts say, that may be even larger than it appears, since much of Obama's support in the primary came from independents. Decline-to-state voters, who represent a sizable voting block in California, continue to flock to his campaign (57 percent have a favorable view of Obama, compared with 47 percent for McCain and only 35 percent for Clinton). Overall, more than 6 in 10 voters of all political stripes say they view Obama favorably, compared with 45 percent for Clinton. If the general election were held today, the poll indicates that Obama, not Clinton, would do better here: He polls at 49-to-40 percent over McCain, while Clinton-McCain is a statistical tie (46 percent of voters say they would support Clinton; 43 percent for McCain).

"the poll was conducted during the week of March 11, one of the roughest stretches Obama has experienced in his campaign, as he faced a barrage of questions about race and his relationship with his pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

4. Moving the goal posts my friend...people don't get it.
Edited on Sun Apr-20-08 09:32 PM by MadMaddie
If it were just an attack by Republicans we could understand it. But these attacks are coming from fellow Democratic supporters and candidate.
And they are giving McCain ammunition...he was on a talk show today talking about the activist that Obama met when he was 8 years old....

Is anyone paying attention?

For those that say they won't vote for Obama if he beats Hillary when the general comes around, are you seriously going to vote for McCain? Same for Obama supporters. If you are then you shouldn't be here should you? Go to a Republican site and support McCain.

9. I don't know any other way to say this...
If McCain wins, America is truly finished, the ice caps are going to melt at an even faster rate, there will be famine and drought around the world, Tehran will be a glowing crater for no damned reason at all, and we're all bascially fucked up as a race.

McCain has to be defeated, and defeated soundly. This is no time for sore-loser Dems to punt in their pants and sit this election because their candidate lost.

Edited on Sun Apr-20-08 09:39 PM by melody
They will target their emotion-laden, deep-seated racism and use it.

It is done all the time ... this is just more of that. It's just the GOP trying to destroy the Democrats. And the
Hillary-blind lemmings are going to follow them right over the cliff.

14. Who the hell are you to tell me I'm not a progressive just because I refuse to vote for Obama?
I'm an African-American woman, and I am offended that you would inject the issue of race into your b.s. argument.

As an African-American, my view is that just because someone looks like me, doesn't mean they share my interests or values.

I refuse to simply vote for the Black candidate. That in no way, shape or form helps my community at all.

What matters to me, is where the candidates stand on the issues affecting my community.

I'm absolutely offended and appauled by the type of campaign Barack Obama has waged, and I will NOT vote for him under any circumstances.

Take your B.S. somewhere else.

20. So you're going to give your progressive vote to McCain?
That is what you are saying - that you will NEVER vote for Obama. NEVER would include the vote in November.

THAT'S a real progressive position.

Keep Roe vs Wade on your mind when you head to the polls.

EVERYTHING else is side shit. If you are still in the party and you do not vote for the nominee you are basically supporting the Republican in my view.

He has to hand over the reins to a Democrat and know that the country wants to go in the opposite direction.
