What excuses will we read in GDP when Obama loses PA?
My predictions:

1) "Anything less that a 20-point victory by Hillary is a loss."

2) "Hillary stole it with electronic voting."

3) "Obama's name wasn't on the ballot in some precincts in Pennsylvania."

What do you predict the excuses will be tonight when it becomes clear that Obama's lost PA?

or the other. I'll be paying attention to exit polling (though I don't know if anyone reports the raw unweighted numbers anymore).

10. it wouldnt even matter if he wins by 2 points or looses by 5 points
Because she needs to win by over 20 points to gain significant delegates before the NC primary wipes out whatever she wins today.

if your going to defend racial epiphets, then you should defend them all.

What defines "racist" isn't whether the majority is offended by it.

9. The FACT is if Hillary doesn't win by a landslide
she will lose any gains she made, when she loses by a landslide in NC. So that's the facts and no excuses are needed.

It's very telling that she wasn't able to hold on to her 20 point lead in the State she grew up in, that is heavily weighted with her best demographics.

Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 10:42 AM by zulchzulu
Obama was 20+% points behind in the polls a couple weeks ago. That is different now.

If Hillary wins, she will only grab up to 10 delegates more than Obama, leaving her still 150+ delegates behind. She could win by a few percentage points in the popular vote and lose in the delegate vote.

What I find hilarious from the Hillary camp is that they are complaining they are being outspent. That's because they are BROKE! They owe millions to vendors along the way that are complaining that they aren't getting paid.

As for eVoting, I would think that ALL Democrats should be concerned with how insecure those electronic voting systems are. With a Palm Pilot with beaming capability, you can log into one of these machines and completely screw with the memory cards that hold the votes. Do you not want a voting system with some kind of redundancy and a paper trail?

Obama may well lose PA, but will still have twice as many states won, the most delegates and the most popular votes. Next!

Updated at 12:12 PM

It's been, for the past four months, about spiting the opposing candidate's supporters. It's an easy trap to fall into.

I like both candidates. I prefer one over the other.

The microcosm of DU is certainly not representative of the bigger world. What's going on in GDP is a battle between supporters...an ugly one.

All he has to do is prevent Hillary from getting more than 60% of the vote because that will prevent her from kicking it with the superdelegates--THAT'S his excuse!

By the way, reports are ALREADY coming in about voting machines breaking down in minority and low-income areas of PA!

That's all she's trying to do here, limit herself to simply an embarrassing loss. She's gone from the public and videotaped claim that it would all be over on Super Tuesday with her the nominee to her current status of clear second place with no realistic path to a victory.

As far as I can tell right now it's now all about her trying to get out without too obviously getting her ass handed to her, build up what few victories she can into as much as she can and hope nobody notices that it doesn't change the fact she's still clearly the second place candidate. Let her fans have this one if they can pull it off, why should we care?

PA has the second-oldest population in the US after Florida.
Clinton does well among the elderly, while Obama does well with the youth.

91. What's with saying it over and over?
Clinton wins PA by 12 has been my call. She wins the state primary, but it still bleeding support. Her winning by less-than-a-landslide doesn't affect the overall standings significantly. It won't affect national views of either candidate significantly or people's donations. Possibly the most Clinton can hope for is to get her campaign out of debt - back to 0.

Clinton supporters seem to think that PA is the whole country - which makes psychological sense, I suppose, since they prefer not to think of her situation as it really is: losing.

Primaries are like the Tour de France. A person can have an advantage on one type of stage without being seriously in the running to win the whole thing.

But yes - Clinton will win PA - everybody knows it, and has known it. Feel free to make yourselves feel better by saying it over and over.

92. Super Delegates say she has to win by 10 points ...LA Times reports
The spread: Clinton needs to win by at least 10 percentage points -- the margin she posted over Obama in Ohio's March 4 primary -- to show that she has not lost her touch in the industrial Rust Belt, several uncommitted superdelegates said.

If she is successful, she will be able to point superdelegates to the fact that she trounced Obama despite being severely outspent on television and radio advertisements in Pennsylvania by a more than 2-to-1 margin.

If Obama can keep the race to within 10 percentage points, or even win, he would claim that he has shown surprising strength in a state that is Clinton's demographic home turf, with many of the lower-income Democrats who have supported her in earlier primaries. That kind of result would give Obama momentum heading toward the May 6 contests in Indiana and North Carolina, where a sweep would make a Clinton nomination feel all the more unrealistic.

101. Let's just wait and see how it shakes out.
Call it battle fatigue.

I prefer Hillary's policy goals, and I place some value on giving everyone the opportunity to vote. I also think that the vigorous campaign won't hurt the nominee, it's good training.

But if I must be honest, if Obama wins PA there is an upside.

102. Your "predictions" are actually the factual statements.
And I think you know that, otherwise you wouldn't have mentioned them.

Hillary is expected to win. Obama himself has even said so. But her win will not be what was expected from PA, 6 weeks ago when Team Hillary moved the goalposts after Ohio and Texas didn't turn out to be the "blowouts" they expected either. Her 28 point lead has been shrinking consistently and she'll be lucky to get a win in single digits.

As far as electro-fraud voting goes, that's a given. It's all done on machines and there's no way to ensure accuracy. If you can actually defend that, then you are part of the problem. Massive turnout (which would likely favor Obama) can arguably reduce the electrofraud potential, but only if they actually VOTE. How many "glitches" will there be at polling sites, and will Rendell (an obvious Clinton/DLC partisan) actually have the balls to close the polls with thousands of people still waiting in line - because there aren't enough machines to handle the crowds efficiently.

And yes, a ballot without Obama's name on it is absolutely inexcuseable. Wonder what Rendell's spin on that is gonna be? :eyes:

No-one has been expecting him to win; and just out of curiosity, are you actually afraid of discussion? You don't even bother to respond to anyone who doesn't agree with you. It appears you're only interested in having Obama supporters reply negatively so that you can confirm your opinion of what dreadful people they are. Which in my book makes you a passive-aggressive coward.

Wasn't this asked yesterday?

This is more Clinton camp spin to turn her failure to hold a 20-point polling lead into an Obama loss.

Once again: Coming out of PA below that percentage gap is a gain for Obama and confirmation that HRC could not hold that lead in what was supposed to have been a Clinton "firewall". End of story and on to NC, where Obama wins.
