3. If I was Obama...
Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 07:26 PM by LuckyTheDog
I would give Hillary just about anything she wants. She has earned respect and has a solid hand to play. But she also should know that taking the fight to the convention (the "Tonya Harding" option) won't help anyone. So it is time for her to make a deal.

If it comes down to taking Hillary in as a running mate and giving her a Cheney-like role in the administration, Obama should do that.

In the end, serving as a strong vice president would give Hillary far more power than the has as a senator or had as first lady. It would be a good deal for her. And if the delegate totals were reversed, I'd call that a good deal for Obama, too.

6. I think it could work
If Hillary had a Cheney-esque role (only, less evil).

And I repeat, if the situation was reversed, I'd be hoping Obama would take such a deal.

8. Naming Clinton as veep only would serve to validate all the "not ready" attacks on Obama
He'd be nuts to nominate her. He'd gain all her negatives, pick up few if any of her positives, and reinforce the worst of his own negatives. There's plenty of people who could be his "Cheney", but the key to winning is for Obama to appear to be his own Cheney.

15. I agree with all of that
Even though I am an Obama supporter, I think a Clinton/Obama ticket makes a lot more sense than the other way around.

14. Everyone knows that Cheney
is the man behind the throne.
So are you suggesting Obama is President in name, and Hillary (and Bill) have the power?
If so, don't be holding your breath for that one. K?

7. Clinton is perfectly poised to make a deal now. Obama should prefer waiting...
until he's scored a victory on his own. It's entirely to his advantage to look like, in every respect, like he's truly earned his nomination. If Clinton goes out while still glowing with a victory, it will always leave a question for some folks. If she goes out after a big Obama win, he smells more like a winner, less like a survivor whose support was starting to flag toward the end.
