Obama making plans to attract voters and money for November
Barack Obama, who hasn't quite clinched the Democratic nomination, is already laying the groundwork for the November election by recruiting new voters and by providing an avenue for donors to give even more.

Yesterday, his campaign announced "Vote for Change," what it described as an unprecedented 50-state voter registration and mobilization drive. The effort will start with at least 83 events across the country on May 10 and has already launched a website.

"If we're going to push back on the special interests and finally solve the challenges we face, we're going to need everyone to get involved," Obama said in a statement.

The campaign takes credit for registering more than 200,000 new Democrats in Pennsylvania, more than 165,000 in North Carolina, and more than 150,000 in Indiana. Obama has won the overwhelming majority of new voters in primaries and caucuses.

Also, Obama's campaign confirmed yesterday that it is setting up a joint fund-raising committee with the Democratic National Committee, an arrangement that allows donors to write one check to be divided between the candidate and the national party, which can use its share to help the candidate. The contribution limit is $28,500, compared to $2,300 for the general election for donations directly to a candidate.

And the Clinton campaign is asking for $5 donors.

1. I want to know if he has a good netroots campaign going.
It seems to me that places such as the DU are where the Obama campaign could counter things like the Rev. Wright sound bites, one on one, that is, if folks can refrain from attacking those with whom they disagree and get smart about how to persuade others.

3. That's been going on all along..
but it doesn't seem to matter. Here the caustic, divisive, and inflammatory language rules.

4. There Isn't Anyone At DU (At Least On This Board) Subject To Persuasion At This Point...
And if you don't know about Obama's grassroots campaign you just haven't been paying attention.

5. You know, you're a perfect example of what I'm not talking about.
Why do you find it necessary to insult me? What earthly good does that do for your candidate?

What goes around comes around, friend, so people like you need to stop and HONESTLY ask themselves if they aren't CREATING a bunch of hostility.

How could I insult that?

11. You ARE a perfect example of what I'm NOT talking about. If the phrasing is a little too
different for you, perhaps you ought to expand your semantic horizons somehow. I suggest you listen to folks like Jon Stewart maybe.

14. So IGNORE me, rather than creating the very thing you supposedly don't want, i.e. distraction.
One of the things that attracts me to the Obama campaign the most is his understanding of the dysfunctionality of Punishment. I'm not certain you understand that concept at all. If you're part of his netroots campaign, I have doubts about its efficacy.

15. P.S. You need to ask yourself what you REALLY want: 1. to Punish others or 2. to Win them. nt

16. I Am A Volunteer In Lancaster Co., PA, Which Obama Won By 8%
One of the reddest counties in the state. Doubt all you want, I have firsthand knowledge of what can be accomplished.

17. Thank you for volunteering, but please consider
the tactical uses of taking WHATEVER people say and USING it to politely steer the discussion back to wherever you were headed if you can, or just not responding to it in the first place.

I know what you mean about living in a red place. My whole state is red and I live in a major urban bedroom community ruled by a BIG evangelistic fundy bible college.

6. Another reason why he's clearly the stronger
candidate in the fall. He is thinking outside the box and working with Howard Dean on a 50 state strategy which has already proven to work so well.

10. This move is very smart politically
HE needs to act as if he's already clinched because when May 20 rolls around, the fact that he has exceeded 50% of all pledged delegates will be the news for several cycles.
