Why is Obama expected to apologize for his pastor? I'll tell you why: Racism.
No one made this big a deal about Bush or Reagan and Billy Graham, Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell. Bush spoke at Bob Jones University, and it was a story for a few days.

Yet Obama is expected to flee his church because people can take his pastor out of context and make it seem like he hates America?

What happened to Wright is the exact same thing that happened to Bill Maher, Michael Moore, the Dixie Chicks, etc. The media decides to make someone out to be un-American, takes them to task for some comment they made, and then piles on.

We don't even know who Hillary's pastor is, but we know she's in a prayer group with some questionable ideas about the nature of God and government, but no one has run with that story.

People are holding Obama to a higher standard than they would anyone else, and it doesn't take a genius to figure out why.

(It's because he's BLACK!)

Hold on tight folks. He's still going to get where he's going. It's going to a lot harder than it would be if he weren't African American, but ultimately he is going to work hard, people are going to figure out that these attempts to hold him accountable for things that no one else would be held accountable for are what they are: racist bullshit, and eventually we are going to get the president we deserve.

Remember Gandhi: "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win."

Obama is clearly past the first two stages.

Just one more to go.

20. It was an interview. Belafonte had met with Chavez.
Russert asked him about it. You know, the usual, "Harry Belafonte says the U.S. is blah blah blah. What do you think of that?"

Why did he ask? What association did Belafonte have with Obama?

Nothing, except they are both black.

3. I agree 100%.
They dare to ask Obama about fucking flag pins because as a black man his patriotism is suspect.

WHERE THE FUCK IS MCCAIN'S GODDAMNED FLAG PIN?

It is racism pure and simple that Obama must be perfect or he is to be cast out.

5. I am so glad that Rev. Wright has chosen to come out... This is really screwing...
the talking heads big time... They just can't believe that he would do this and they don't know what to do with it.... They can't hide all of the great things about Rev. Wright; ie: whit, humor, intelligence, devotion to both country and church and many other marvelous things.

9. It's probably because of Louis Farrakhan's statement that was taken
as Anti-Semitic by the Neo-Cons. CNN just showed the clip of Wright's statement on Louis Farrakhan from the National Press Club this morning. It was the lead clip. I listened to Wright's whole speech plus the Q&A and for CNN to pick out that one answer to a question...would seem to say the CNN propaganda machine thought the statement on Farrakhan was the important one to put out there for their viewers.

Neo-Cons are not happy with Obama. Josh Marshall and Eric Alterman have written about it.

10. I cringe every time he says "former pastor"
I cringe every time he goes out of his way to say he condemns certain of Wright's statements.

I understand why Obama is doing this. The right wing is bullying him and he is picking his battles wisely.

But the rest of us don't have to be so genteel. Pastor Wright was speaking the truth. America is not perfect, not by a long shot. And some things we do here are completely immoral or worse. In the most publicized passages, he was talking about the drug problem and how it is destroying a generation of youth. America has chosen priorities that perpetuate poverty in the poorest neighborhoods, locking in the cycle of poverty and violence. Most white folks are OK with that as long as we hire enough police incarcerate people before they get to our neighborhood.

Maybe I wouldn't choose "God damn America" rhetorically to discuss this, but I get his point. I don't think any fair-minded person would say he was damning America in its entirety. He was talking specifically about the systematic cycle of drugs, poverty, violence, prison, and broken families.

I don't see how this is any different from Hagee's comments about New Orleans. Virtually the same choice of words in both cases. The only difference I can see is that Hagee seemed to be saying that God *DID* damn America because of a gay parade and Wright was praying that God *SHOULD* damn America for allowing this blight to wreck so many lives. In that context, he clearly wasn't condemning the country or calling for disaster or destruction. He was condemning the politicians who have maintained this systematic cycle of poverty. He wasn't calling for destruction. He was calling to raise society up.

23. Why do you hate America???
:D

I think this all misses the point. You are looking at this rationally, in the expectation that others might as well. That's not the goal of Jeremiah 24-7.

The goal of Jeremiah 24-7 is to let people who are unconsciously biased against a black candidate to have an excuse to justify their bias. This allows people to feel that they are not racist, despite the fact that they are judging a person based on their pastor, not their positions, not their record, not their personal achievements.

It's not about rationality or seriously considering what Wright said. The goal is to convince the large subset of American society that doesn't know how racist they are that Obama is cool with Farrakhan. It's to make him easily dismissed.

16. Hillary has yet to apologize for the trauma our country experienced with Bill's DickGates...
...and that was something her husband did and was investigated, and impeached, over.

When Hillary apollogizes for Bill putting the best interests of his dick ahead of the best interests of our country, then they can start wanking about Obama's pastor.

28. The pastor that they called when Bill got in trouble.
You'd think the Obama campaign would have gone there by now.

I suspect they fear that if he does that, it will show that the entire Democratic Party is beholden to Reverend Wright and everyone the media is smearing by association with him. I.e.; better one Democrat be left to fight than the whole party be considered Wright-smeared.

Personally, I'm over the concept of Hillary as Democrat...it doesn't wash anymore.

Who does he think he is, running for President with only 12 years of governing experience, an Ivy League pedigree, and a natural rapport with voters?

27. Don't worry, America isn't buying what the MSM is selling
They're trying to convince us that this is a pressing issue for Americans, but it isn't. A handful of DUers are playing along by flooding the forum with pastorbating threads, because they're desperate and they really have nothing else to use to convince of the merits of their candidate.

American voters have already shown and continue to show that they want the best leader for our country. Americans and their families have much more pressing issues on their minds than this media circus.

November will come soon enough.
