Kerry/Edwards campaign song??
Edited on Wed Jul-07-04 11:32 AM by bkcc
I was just watching them live on CNN and "Right Now" by Van Halen was played when Edwards took the stage.

Is this what they're using for their campaign stops, or is it just Edwards' intro music?

While we're on the subject...what do you think their song should be?

1. I wish they'd use
The old Hulk Hogan theme song from his 80's WWF days

"I am a real American..."

That always pumped me up. :)

2. I don't know the answer to your question but...
...I think they should use Foo Fighter's "Time Like These".

3. Kerry played it yesterday right after announcing the name of his vp
right after he said the next vp will be john edwards, the song played. it stopped after a while so kerry could finish his speech.

johnny b good is another one they play. one of the reasons i knew kerry was going to pick edwards for vp was because he was playing johnny b good at his campaign events.

4. Great energetic music! Johnny B. Goode
Johnny B. Goode
Chuck Berry

Deep down in Louisiana, close to New Orleans,
Way back up in the woods among the evergreens,
There stood a log cabin made of earth and wood
Where lived a country boy named Johnny B. Goode
Who never ever learned to read or write so well?
But he could play the guitar just like a ringin' a bell.

Chorus:
Go! Go! Go, Johnny, go! go!
Go, Johnny, go! go!
Go, Johnny, go! go!
Go, Johnny, go! go! Johnny B. Goode

He used to carry his guitar in a gunnysack,
Go sit beneath the tree by the railroad track.
Old engineers would see him sittin' in the shade,
Strummin' with the rhythm that the drivers made.
When people passed him by they would stop and say,
'Oh, my but that little country boy could play'

Chorus

His mother told him, 'someday you will be a man,
You will be the leader of a big ol' band.
Many people comin' from miles around
Will hear you play your music when the sun go down.
Maybe someday your name'll be in lights,
Sayin' 'Johnny B. Goode tonight''

Chorus

5. I liked it
If it's "the" song, I think it's a good one. Made me all cheerful and hopeful when I heard it. We're going to turn this country around RIGHT NOW!

Don’t wanna wait til tomorrow,
Why put it off another day?
One more walk through problems,
Built up, and stand in our way ,ah
One step ahead, one step behind me
Now you gotta run to get even
Make future plans, don’t dream about yesterday, hey
C’mon turn, turn this thing around
Right now, hey
It’s your tomorrow
Right now,
C’mon,it’s everything
Right now,
Catch a magic moment, do it
Right here and now
It means everything
Miss the beat, you lose the rhythm,
And nothing falls into place, no
Only missed by a fraction,
Slipped a little off your pace, oh,
The more things you get, the more you want,
Just trade in one for the other,
Workin so hard, to make it easier, whoa,
Got to turn, c’mon turn this thing around
Right now, hey
It’s your tomorrow
Right now,
C’mon, it’s everything
Right now,
Catch that magic moment, do it
Right here and now
It means everything
It’s enlightened me, right now
What are you waitin for
Oh, yeah, right now
(solo)
Right now, hey
It’s your tomorrow
Right now,
C’mon, it’s everything
Right now,
Catch that magic moment, and do it right,
Right now
Right now, oh, right now
It’s what’s happening?
Right here and now
Right now
It’s right now
Oh,
Tell me, what are you waiting for
Turn this thing around

6. Ever see the video ?
There are 'headlines' flashing across the screen throughout, against a backdrop of 'everyday life'.

Toward the end, one of the headlines toward the end says (paraphrase) "Right now, our country is doing things we think only other countries do" with 3 stick people - one pushing another backwards while the 3rd kneels on the ground behind him (the old grade school gag).

Van Halen had it down cold, even back then.

7. Yep
I'm old, but I'm not THAT old that I don't watch MTV!!! That is one of the better videos ever made. And we should remember, that was the result of years of wonderful Reaganomics.

8. HAIR!
Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

10. I know it's old
Edited on Wed Jul-07-04 03:31 PM by Carolina
but ever since yesterday, I've been hummming: Happy Days Are Here Again. It's our song from the Roosevelt Years but damn, it sure seems fitting now.

Happy Days Are Here Again

So long sad times
Go long bad times
We are rid of you at last
Howdy gay times
Cloudy gray times
You are now a thing of the past

Happy days are here again
The skies above are clear again
So let's sing a song of cheer again
Happy days are here again

Altogether shout it now
There's no one
Who can doubt it now
So let's tell the world about it now
Happy days are here again

Your cares and troubles are gone
There'll be no more from now on
From now on...

Happy days are here again
The skies above are here again
So, let's sing a song of cheer again
Happy times
Happy nights
Happy days
Are here again!

Country Music Theme: Ain’t No Thinking Thing (Trace Adkins)

Punk Rock Theme: Sinister Rouge (Bad Religion)

Heavy Metal Theme: The Thing That Should Not Be (Metallica)

Folk Music Theme: Instead of Phil Ochs “I Aint Marching Anymore”…It becomes “I never did March Before”

13. Gotta Be...
Bad Religion's "You Are (The Government)"

Hey sit down and listen and they'll tell you when you're wrong.
Eradicate but vindicate as "progress" creeps along.
Puritan work ethic maintains its subconscious edge
As Old Glory maintains your consciousness.
There's a loser in the house, and a puppet on the stool,
And a crowded way of life, and a black reflecting pool,
And as the people bend, the moral fabric dies,
The country can't pretend to ignore its people's cries.
You are the government.
You are jurisprudence.
You are the volition.
You are juridiction.
And I make a difference too.

Fits perfectly, doesn't it?

Or how about-

"We're Not Gonna Take It" -Twisted Sister
"Vow" -Garbage
"Work" -Bob Marley
"Won't Back Down" -Fuel

Bush gets a Bad Religion tune, too. How about "American Jesus"?

18. Bad Religion is GOD

That is my all-time favorite band. "American Jesus" is one of their 5 best songs ever. And yes...that song fits Bush perfectly. Hell, a lot of Bad Religions stuff is directed directly at the Christian Right.

Their new CD, "The Empire Strikes First" rages.

14. Everybody should download "crazy game of poker" by the band O.A.R.
It's not only a great song, The hook line is "And I said Johnny what you doin' tonight. He looked at me with a face full of fright, and I said, how 'bout a revolution and he said right!"

19. This is so corny but
Like A Rock by Bob Seger is really familiar to everyone, sort of represents baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and better times in America, and implies solid stability.
