So what's the difference between Wright and the Pope?

Last week everybody was talking about the Pope, now it's all about Wright. And they've gotten considerably different treatment.

So what are the differences?

Well, one fought for the marines. The other fought for the Wehrmacht.

One blames institutionalized racism for the problems facing African Americans. The other blames Islam for all evil and inhumanity.

One suspects the U.S. government has conspired to spread HIV/AIDS amongst African Americans, the other, as a head of state, as actively conspired to spread HIV/AIDS by blocking the distribution and use of condoms amongst Africans.

One is black. The other's white.

That's the differences that I'm seeing.

UCC is a pretty liberal Christian denomination, and while you might be surprised to hear it, many Christians don't believe what you apparently think they do at all.

In addition,(and to be fair, though I intensely dislike Ratzinger) Catholic doctrine also damns no one to hell. Catholic thought is more along the lines of "God will sort it all out, not humans".

So while I guess you were hoping to make quick anti-Christian points here, you missed the mark, I think.

The idea that a certain set of beliefs is absolutely necessary for salvation is more of a few particular subsets of Protestantism. Definitely not the norm across Christian belief!

Wright did not say anyone was going to hell for not believing HIS religion...

You didn't listen to his speech.

He said there is hope for forgiveness and redemption for everyone...
