Randi Rhodes said it best
Edited on Fri May-02-08 07:23 AM by barack the house
I paraphrase here. She said " After 911 the church asked itself why would god let something like this happen some came up with wacky things like sexual orientation and sin. Wright came up with the right answer foreign policy"

4. Excellent
Of course, the way discourse has deteriorated in Dumbfuckistan, you can't say that. It must be sin or gays or something drawn from the fantasy-based world of preachers, bibles, jesusoids and assorted snake oil salesmen.

9. So, according to Wright and Rhodes, God inflicts collective punishment on nations.
Edited on Fri May-02-08 07:58 AM by The Night Owl
Wow! What a loving and benevolent God. Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell were Wright all along!

15. Christians are under no obligation to believe all the claims made in the Bible.
Edited on Fri May-02-08 08:20 AM by The Night Owl
Christians are under no obligation to believe all the claims made in the Bible. Thank God that most don't. But the fact that Wright and Rhodes subscribe to the idea that God inflicts collective punishment on nations speaks volumes about them... and Pat Robertson... and Jerry Falwell... etc.

16. You seem to be saying that
most Christians don't believe in Noah's ark or Sodom and Gomorrah. Interesting.

I know that Hinduism subscribes to the belief that a nation's suffering can be brought about by actions of the people within it. It's called mass karma. I'm no expert in the theologies of the world, but I suspect that the concept is universal.

11. And people, too.
I, for one, want no part of a God like that.

Do I think that certain policies of the United States leave us vulnerable to terrorist attack? Yes.

Do I believe such terrorist attacks are justified revenge, payback, etc., upon us for that policy? No.

Small, subtle, but significant difference.

If Randi and the Rev. Wright are trying to say that our foreign policy makes us vulnerable, they should say it--not talk about God as if God were a terrorist, or as if God works through terrorists to punish countries with bad foreign policy. This "chickens coming home to roost" shit should be left behind, because it wins no one to their perspective. It just makes people angry.

Terrorism is NOT justified, and it is NOT "God's work." Ever.
