Hillary's campaign in crisis: Where is Hillary? Where are Wolfson and Ickes?
They usually have a lot to say at the slightest hint of anything they can use to attack Obama.

When are they going to step up and address Blumenthal, Kantor and the robo calls?

Six months of RW e-mail, months of robo calls and endless pretense from Hillary's campaign

2. The fast and furious spin
Update 2: So we've got conflicting accounts on whether the more incendiary of the statements was doctored. The director of the War Room says the (n-word) is doctored, and gives the reason for the "shit" comment.

"He does not say that . He does not say that," said Pennebaker, after viewing the clip.

He said the initial expletive referred to the anticipated reaction in the Bush White House to the fact that Ross Perot's polling numbers were holding strong.

"What he says is he’s surprised Perot’s numbers are holding," said Pennebaker in a brief phone interview. "He says they must be shi**ing in the White House."

Now, take a look at the explanation Kantor gave for the "shit" expletive.

"Indiana was not even on our radar screen," he said, "And I was talking about the polling and not the people... If you look at The War Room, this is not the way Carville or George interpreted my statement. This is frankly libelous."

Those two statements don't seem to match up.

Update 3: Fast and furious, Ben Smith at politico has updated his piece, saying he spoke to the editor of the YouTube video. NO ALTERATION, according to the editor.

UPDATE: I spoke to the editor of the video who said that he enhanced, but didn't alter, the audio in the second portion of the video.

Update 4: The first clip is "no longer available."

5. They are trying to make you look like fools
Jake Tapper reposted on the Kantor issue:

It's all a mess, though I must say when "The War Room" came out other folks interpreted Kantor to be impugning Indiana residents.

In The Washington Post's review of the film in 1993, critic Desson Howe referred to "a Mickey Kantor comment about the people of Indiana (when it looks as though Clinton's ahead in Dan Quayle's state)."

And a 1995 story in the Sydney Morning Herald said that "As for the good folk of Indiana, they are still recovering from the 1993 documentary War Room, which revealed the grim truth behind the Clinton election campaign. It showed Mr Kantor bursting in on election night to tell other campaign staffers that incredibly, Mr Clinton was doing well even in Republican Indiana. 'And those people are s---!' he declared breathlessly."

6. NPR uncovers more Clinton ties, shady dealings with WVWV
Edited on Fri May-02-08 01:54 PM by ProSense
NC Robocalls: NPR uncovers more Clinton ties, shady dealings with WVWV (Updated):

NPR also makes clear that WVWV has many strong ties to Hillary Clinton. They point this out not just in the All Things Considered piece but in a comprehensive table that accompanies the story on its website. I was aware of many of WVWV's connections to Hillary that are in the table, but some of them were new to me. Here are highlights from the table:

  1. Page Gardner, founder and president
Connections: Served as as deputy politcal director for Bill Clinton's 1992 campaign and presidential transition team.
Donations: $4,200 to Hillary Clinton's Senate campaign in 2005; $2,500 to HillPAC in 2006.

  2. Joe Goode, executive director
Connections: Pollster for Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign.

  3. Micheal Lux, board member
Connections: Worked on Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign, and later served as his special asst. for public liaison.
Donations: $2,500 to Hillary Clinton's Senate campaign in 2000-2001; $1,000 to HillPAC in 2002.

  4. Mimi Mager, board member
Connections: Member of the Clinton-Gore transition team; founding member of Emily's List, which supports Hillary.
Donations: $2,000 to Hillary Clinton in 2007.

  5. John Podesta, board member
Connections: Former chief of staff for President Clinton.
Donations: $2,300 to Hillary Clinton in 2007; $1,000 to HillPAC in 2001; $2,000 to Hillary's Senate campaign in 2000.

  6. Hal Malchow, leadership team
Connections: Hillary Clinton's campaign owes Malchow's firm, MSHC Partners, nearly $1 million for printing expenses.
    Donations: $2,000 to Hillary's Senate campaign in 1999-2000 and $2,100 in 2005.

  7. Pat Griffin, leadership team
Connections: Former top advisor to President Clinton; served as asst. to the president for legislative affairs.
Donations: $4,600 to Hillary Clinton in 2007; $3,000 to Clinton from 2000-2005.

  8. Maggie Williams, leadership team
Connections: Current campaign manager for Hillary Clinton, and many other ties to the Clintons.
Donations: $4,600 to Hillary Clinton in 2007.

NPR notes that a few people in leadership positions at WVWV have some ties to Obama, but the vast majority are linked to Hillary Clinton. For example, in the NPR table I count donations of $33,800 to Hillary Clinton and just $3,600 to Barack Obama.

It gets worse. In a secondary story on its website, written by Will Evans of the Center for Investigative Reporting, NPR uncovers some serious conflicts of interest at WVWV that could be a violation of nonprofit law, according to charity watchdogs.

In 2006, WVWV paid Integral Resources Inc. nearly $800,000 for phone services. That company's CEO and founder is Ron Rosenblith, who is married to WVWV president Page Gardner. NPR notes that the contract represents 16% of the nonprofit's budget.
