Obama Folks, DO NOT GET OUTRAGED BY THE KANTOR VIDEO !!!
Look, this is a tough fight we're in, us Obama folks versus the Clinton folks. But consider this:

1: Mickey Kantor was a young Clinton operative in 1992 when this video was filmed. That's 16 years ago, and we all said crap 16 years ago (those of us who were old enough to speak) that we regret; and at the time there was no Barack Obama at whom this could have been directed. Add in the stress attendant on being a campaigner on election day, and it's not hard to understand how someone can say stuff they wouldn't say on a day to day basis.

2: I've listened to a number of versions of this "incident"; and while I'm pretty clear that Kantor says "those people are shit", I'm not perfectly clear on who he's talking about, the people of Indiana, who most definitely are not shit, or his opponents in the Bush campaign, who most decidedly were. What I'm not sure of is that he ever uses the term "white nigger". What I hear is "how would you like to be in the white house right now..." or some such, and I'm not even perfectly clear on that.

3: This is the kind of horse crap issue that could bite back if we bite on it. The cloth of which this is woven is pretty thin, and if it turns out the video was doctored or the subtitles don't match what was actually said, and the Obama campaign is held responsible for having adopted the doctored video or faking the subtitles, this becomes "Obama dirty tricks"; and Clinton gets a pass on her caging of voters and her robocalls and the other Rovian stuff she's been doing.

4: Remember the trademark Rove tactic he used in Texas, when he planted a bug in Bush's office and then said "we found a bug in our office - it must be Bush's opponent". The tactic is not to use actual dirty tricks, but to accuse the other side of it. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the doctored video was put on Youtube by a Clinton supporter to make Obama look bad for having put it out.

Don't bite on this, it's bait. We gotta be savvy.

1. It's not about "those people are shit", it's about him using the N word
after having listened to the actual unedited movie clip from the war room I am convinced he actually said it.

And I wouldn't normally condamn Hillary for this but the hypocrisy not only on her part but also on the media's part is absolutely unbelievable.

5. I'm not convinced he said it, and even if he did, it's not Hillary talking.
It's a campaign operative 16 years ago. This doesn't have wheels, but it has the potential to blow up in Obama's face.

3. I am outraged that the Democratic party is seriously considering a nominee who voted for the IWR
voted for the Kyle/Lieberman ammendment, and verbalized the use of nuclear weapons if Iran attacked Israel

What is this macho gunboat diplomacy? It is nothing new. Isn't it time to engage in a dialog with our adversaries instead of threats

Threats have worked so well for us the past 8 years haven't they?

13. We supported a nominee four years ago that voted for the IWR..
That is why I have always wanted Feingold... From the beginning he has said no to IWR and the patriot act... He is who I wanted to run, maybe in four more years he will be ready after bringing as many progressives to the table as he can....

Edited on Fri May-02-08 04:03 PM by still_one
I am in a very moral conflict, especially having lived through the Viet Nam era, to see the same replay

Incidently, the reason why there are not as many American deaths is because of better trama care, but the 30 thousand wounded, should
lives have been changed forever

and the Iraqii people's loses are even worse

17. Exacrly
This gas tax holiday thing Hillary is proposing is total bullshit. We need to hit her on the issues.

We have at our disposal the

1. Obliterate Iran comment
2. Her vote for Kyl-Lieberman
3. Her dishonesty about her favorable position on trade agreements
4. The fact that she has lobbyist running her campaign and sees nothing wrong with it
5. The fact that she is controlled by corporate lobbyist
6. The fact that her policies are fatally flawed
7. The fact that she has proven to be an ineffective candidate, let alone leader
8. The fact that Obama is the winner, and she, hanging on by a thread, is actually hurting the Democratic party
9. Her vote on the IWR
10. Her position on mandating people buy health insurance without a guarantee of health care, which only results in corporate insurers
getting RICHER, and working people getting poorer. She gets to slap the misleading title of "universal health care" on it and make
people believe they are getting health care instead of health insurance

......since Obama would face the Republicans in the GE if he was the nominee.

In doing that she took the low road, and I feel no sympathy when it comes back and bites her in the butt.

21. Just thought of something
I realized that the White House explanation might make sense, because they were looking at a poll, and he could have been saying that even if they did not win Indiana, the fact that it was close must have meant someone was shitting in their pants...ironically, I have been making the argument for a few months that we could get Indiana close enough to scare the Republicans, and that might have been what he was saying there. I'll open the link with another browser and cancel my vote out.

43. It's not the words that are concerning us, but the image
The Clintons insist on putting forth this image of infallibility and moral perfection. So the Kantor comment pretty much shoots holes in that image. Thus, discussing this is not only appropriate, but necessary - because I sure don't want to buy into the Clinton image...

44. Hillary isn't responsible for every word ever uttered by her staff.
I don't think the average person thinks she is, either. The intent of my post is not to say that her staff are infallible or anything, it is to warn against getting all bent out of shape about something (1) said a long time ago (2) by someone other than the candidate herself (3) that wasn't directed against our candidate, and (4) may not even be what it initially sounds like. Because if we get all bent out of shape it looks like us either playing a race card, being hypersensitive or playing dirty politics.

All 3 of which are not what our candidate is about.

All we're getting is the same old denial we get from Clinton every time there is a negative item concerning her, or her campaign.

48. I don't give a hoot in hell what she does about it.
What I'm worried about is what the Democratic candidate for president does about it, and that's Barack Obama. I care about HIS image going into November. I don't give a rat's what the harridan running past her last chance says or does.

My concern is the damage to him, not her. She's already a historical candidate.
