Has Hillary Clinton addressed her aides' connections with the robo-calling scam?
I'm going to ask this question on DU ever day until I hear an explanation from Clinton's campaign, and it better be good.

1. It's not being addressed by the MSM so why address it?
The only thing that counts is what the MSM covers right??

7. Actually NPR had good coverage on All Things Considered yesterday afternoon:
Election 2008
Group with Clinton Ties Behind Dubious Robocalls

by Peter Overby

All Things Considered, May 1, 2008 · Thousands of North Carolina residents answered their telephones last week to hear this message, delivered in a deep, soothing voice:

"Hello. This is Lamont Williams. In the next few days, you will receive a voter registration packet in the mail. All you need to do is fill it out, sign it, date and return the application. Then you will be able to vote and make your voice heard. Please return your registration form when it arrives. Thank you."

In fact, the deadline to register for the May 6 Democratic presidential primary had already passed. The robocall went to many registered voters who were expecting to vote that day. The call and follow-up mailings left many wondering whether they were registered for the primary or not.

This sounds like a classic example of voter suppression — sowing confusion in order to drive down turn-out. The calls seemed to be aimed at African-American communities, places where Illinois Sen. Barack Obama is expected to run well ahead of New York Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Nonprofit's Contracts Called into Question

by Will Evans

Charity watchdogs say the way the group Women's Voices Women Vote has spent its money on at least one contract raises red flags.

In 2006, the organization paid Integral Resources Inc. nearly $800,000 for phone services. That company's CEO and founder is Ron Rosenblith, who is married to Women's Voices president, Page Gardner. The contract represents 16 percent of the nonprofit's budget. The group is funded mostly through foundations and individual donations.

"I think it's a really big concern," said Daniel Borochoff, president of the American Institute of Philanthropy in Chicago. "It does give an appearance of a conflict of interest."

The question, he and other charity experts say, would be whether Integral Resources profited from its inside connections. Women's Voices did not make anyone available to comment.

4. I don't get how DU of all sites - founded to take a stand against the election fraud of 2000
and with a membership that generally seems dedicated to stopping vote suppression of ANY sort - would just take a collective pass on this issue because of the 'politics' involved.

8. You can bet I won't let this pass-it's the reason (suppression of the Af Am vote)
that I came to DU in the first place. This Kantor stuff is just another distraction to shift folks against this important revelation. I wrote to Conyers staff (legal) and asked that they look into it. It's up to us to keep pressing for answers!

My suggestions:

Write to House Judiciary and ask them to look into these voter suppression emails

and

Write Josh Marshall, thank him for TPMs coverage and ask him to keep delving into these robo calls.

:hi:

15. Maggie Williams is Hillary's campaign manager!
Hillary Clinton's campaign manager, Maggie Williams, helped found the organization!

Center for Investigative Reporting follows Women's Voices' political connections
Will Evans with the Center for Investigative Reporting has compiled a helpful chart documenting in detail the connections between the principals of Women's Voices Women Vote -- the nonprofit we discovered behind illegal election robo-calls in North Carolina -- and the various presidential campaigns.

As we have already noted, many of the group's top leaders have worked for Bill and Hillary Clinton in some capacity. Founder and President Page Gardner, for example, served as the deputy political director for the 1992 Bill Clinton campaign and worked on his presidential transition team. Executive Director Joe Goode was a pollster for Bill Clinton, and former Women's Voices leadership team member and strategic planner Maggie Williams is now Hillary Clinton's campaign manager.

The Center breaks new ground by showing just how heavily and disproportionately Women's Voices principals have invested in the Hillary Clinton campaign. According to the chart, they have donated a total of $34,800 to Hillary Clinton or HillPAC since 2000. At the same time, they have donated only $3,600 to the Obama campaign and $2,300 to John Edwards.

Daniel Borochoff, president of the American Institute of Philanthropy in Chicago, said that's a concern as it gives the appearance of a conflict of interest. Rick Cohen, former executive director of the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy and a national correspondent for Nonprofit Quarterly magazine, added that such relationships create "the image, if not the reality, of self-dealing."]

And those in charge have offered an explanation.

Again, the charges made were exaggerated and not based in fact. Typical Obama campaign manufactured outrage.

21. Maggie Williams is Hillary's campaign manager.
Maggie Williams helped found the group. Don't hand me this crap. We've listened to the Clinton campaign's "concerns" about Obama's minister for over a month.

I want to know why Hillary's campaign leaders are involved with a group that is illegally suppressing the black vote in North Carolina and eleven other states. And don't lie to me. The charges were not "exaggerated." The Attorney General of NC is mad about this, and believe me, Roy Cooper is no bleeding heart liberal.

I live in North Carolina. I've watched the puke Republicans do this for decades. I want answers about Clinton's involvement now!

25. Is she currently working for this group? No.
I also think this is another manufactured scandal, ie taking something innocuous and turning it into something it isn't.

When will Obama's campaign start talking about the issues and his experience?

24. Hillary Robocallham Clinton has nothing-NOTHING-to answer for!
She's doing Obama a favor because the Republicans will do all this stuff to him too. Obama should thank her! It was done strictly in the spirit of good citizenship and to help the Democratic Party elect a strong nominee-no matter what the N.C. Atty General may say about criminal penalties, fines, etc. Such ingratitude!
