Obama's Pacific Faceplant
Edited on Sat May-03-08 09:39 PM by Austinitis
The http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/05/03/obama_wins_guam_by_slimmest_of.html?hpid=topnews">Washington Post writes:

The margin of victory in the Pacific island, a U.S. territory, was only seven votes, quite a bit closer than the Obama campaign anticipated earlier this year. According to a chart of estimated outcomes, the campaign projected the llinois senator to carry Guam by 11 percent. Instead, the final spread was 0.2 percent -- 50.1 percent for Obama and 49.9 percent for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. More than 4,500 people cast ballots -- three times the number to vote in 2004's Democratic caucus, Reuters reported.

This should put an end to any non-sense about today being anything short of an embarrassment for Obama.

2. You're talking about the "chart" that was accidentally left by one of Obama's
Edited on Sat May-03-08 09:46 PM by K Gardner
campaign people with Tim Fucking Russert.. that was spread around.. a chart they compiled BEFORE the campaign started.

Fuck your spin and bullshit. The MSM has been predicting a Clinton win in Guam and everyone knows it so cut the crap.

http://cbslocalblogs.prospero.com/n/blogs/blog.aspx?webtag=kyw_backroom&entry=3

Aside from Pennsylvania, Indiana and North Carolina, there are 7 remaining contests: Guam, West Virginia, Kentucky, Oregon, Puerto Rico, Montana and South Dakota. Hillary, as of today, is expected to win West Virginia, Kentucky, Guam and Puerto Rico. Oregon, Montana and South Dakota are expected to go the Barrack Obama. Hillary needs to take one of those Obama states away to be able to claim the momentum going into the convention. June 3 will be the last day of primary season (if they stick with the plan to not "re-do" Michigan and Florida). Montana and South Dakota will hold primaries on that day. The Clinton campaign would like to take one of those states from Obama so that he can't claim the last day as a "comeback."

McCain would surely plan on exploiting this against Obama if Guam got a say in November.

14. Yup. They thought they 'd lose Maine, but they won there
Otherwise every win and loss is accurate. Percentages are off, but then, they weren't expecting the elitism charges or the daily media Wright orgasms either.

I'd say they're pretty hot for predicting three months ahead.

29. Pick up a calculator
and figure out how many voters needs to switch to make the difference from a virtual tie to +11 as they predicted.

And figure in that turnout was 3x what it was the last time.

Now tell me again if you think whoever made the prediction in that spreadsheet is lying awake over making a 10 point error in a call that was made months ago..

The campaign overestimated in some states, and underestimated in other states, so there were also good surprises that the memo had not anticipated.

16. Obama will win by about 54-46 once this absurd "spoiled" ballot thing
from Dededo is sorted out. Let's see: Obama wins the rest of the island by a consistent 54-46, 53-47 margin until Dededo comes in as the last precinct with a 22% margin for Clinton and 500 "spoiled" ballots.

I know Guam personally and there is no difference in population make up and culture in Dededo than the rest of the island. But there certainly can be a difference in who was counting the ballots.

So we shall see in a few days what the final authorized tally will be. And Obama's margin.

People who know nothing about what happened on the ground there shouldn't be talking through their hat.

Hillary Clinton tops Guam political donations
Wednesday, April 23, 2008

By Dennis Camire
Gannett News Service

WASHINGTON -- With less than two weeks to go before Guam's May 3 Democratic caucuses, the island's voters have contributed $5,200 to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential campaign compared with $4,500 for Sen. Barack Obama's, according to an analysis of their most recent disclosure reports.

Presumptive Republican nominee John McCain also has received $1,530 in contributions, according to the analysis by the Center for Responsive Politics.

Although Guam residents cannot vote in the presidential election, the island's Democratic Party will send 11 delegates to the Democratic National Convention in Denver Aug. 25-28 to vote on the nominee.

Three of the Guam delegates are uncommitted "super delegates" who each have a full vote, and the remaining eight delegates -- four men and four women -- will be elected during Guam's Democratic caucus. Those eight delegates each will have half a vote, which means Guam has a total of seven full votes to cast in Denver.

Edited on Sat May-03-08 10:09 PM by dbmk
We are talking about 240-250 switched votes to move it to +11%. And if the total number of voters is three times higher than last time - 80 voters would have been enough last time.

To compare to the leaked spreadsheet on this primacaucus(c) without at least acknowledging such a thing shows little grasp of the subject. The delegate split was ultimately right, and whoever filled out the spreadsheet prob knew that +1 or +11 really was of little consequence and EXTREMELY unpredictable.

To call this an embarrasment to anyone is idiotic beyond belief. Have som gd pride.
