The National Republican Congressional Committee and several conservative groups poured nearly $1 million into the race in an effort to tie Cazayoux to Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). The ads called the state representative "too liberal" for the district.

Good win for the Dems and hopefully we can add another Dem Senator come November when Musgrove defeats Wicker, who replaced Lott. Also, the race for Wicker's seat is a lot closer because Greg Davis is a stronger opponent for the Dem candidate Travis Childers.....Internal polling show Childers with 48 to Davis' 47 and 5% undecided.....In the Senate race Musgrove the ex govenor has a 6 point lead over Wicker.

It's a heavily Republican district, and the cash-strapped NRCC spent a significant chunk of its bankroll there (about half a million, leaving it with about $6 million). Nevertheless, the Democrat won.

Reed and Scalise to face off for 1st District Congressional seat

The process to fill the first Congressional District seat vacated by now-Governor Bobby Jindal ends Saturday with the final election between Republican Steve Scalise and Democrat Gilda Reed.

Political analysts like Bernie Pinsonat agree it would be a monumental upset to see a Democrat win this seat.

"If Steve Scalise is alive and breathing Saturday night at 8 o'clock, he's the winner," said Pinsonat.

First, John Laesch ran against Hastert and got about forty percent of the vote, an amazing thing in that red district. That was during the Foley scandal. And people were sick of the war and sick of the republican corruption.

Hastert resigned after he lost his speakership. The special election was included a hard-fought primary between Foster and Laesch. The election itself was slated to be held during a time when there would be little outside influence from the primary or other state races.

The republicans would have had a chance if the Milk Nazi had not won the republican primary. He is a bigot and a perennial candidate. Lauzen should have been their candidate. We would have had a tough time beating him.

The organizations on the ground won it for Foster. DeKalb County in particular got the vote out in stunning fashion.

Local and state politics have many other factors besides the Presidential race. If you want to claim that Obama has coattails in November, should he win, that is fine. But even in Illinois, he is an ordinary politician who does not walk on water.

This is a red state. This is a red district. The GOP tried to stick him with Obama at the height of "Wright Round 2" in a GOP deep southern district........ and WE STILL WON!

That's an interesting headline given the facts of the article. I'm going to hope/assume that Fox News came up with that headline and not the AP.

The Rs kept the 1st, but the Dems picked up the 6th from the Rs.

To them, that would have been priority because they are "fair and balanced".
