I didn't even mind the 10 minutes of Rev Wright questioning because Obama put the issue to bed in a very clear manner. Anyone watching MTP today would know that Obama is definitely the best candidate for POTUS. He was on point with every question and exposed HRC for the pandering politician she is.

I will be giving $25 to Obama tomorrow and will throw in an extra dollar for every rec. this thread gets (up to a $300 max). I would hope that Obama supporters will throw some money to the cause based on that stellar performance today.

280. And Obama is different how?
Did any of you deluded lemmings listen to what Obama said? He said we'd be in Iraq at least 2 more years after (if) he becomes president. And that's only on "conditions".

You people have to quite hearing only what you want to hear. All our real candidates have been pushed out or ignored. ALL three of the remaining so-called "front-runners" are exactly who powers-that-be want in and where manufactured by them, presented by their M$M, and you, the deluded masses, are hustled in to a grand dog & pony show that gives you an illusion that you have a choice in the matter, when if fact not only are you fools who will be fooled once again when you cast your vote on machines that have all the effect of invisible ink.

Where's Obama's call for impeachment? Where was his denouncing bush condoning torture? Where is call for a new investigation of 9/11?

And don't give me this, "he's got to be careful" bullshit. Truth doesn't need gentle. If you're too stupid to understand that than keep on doing what you're doing and keep on wondering why things aren't changing for the better.

it was the rest of the senators that voted them down finally? Must be kind of a slow learner. While this tax cut wouldn't do too much for the average driver, it could make a significant difference for truck drivers who are having their trucks repossessed from truck stops at the rate of as many as 3 per week.

Russert gives a strong interview with tough follow up questions. By getting interviewed by Russert the right can't say it was an easy interview. If Obama went on KO for an hour they would say that it was an easy interview by a supporter.

My opinion of Russert overall is that he gives softball questions to his favorites. He consistently gives RW guests special treatment, and I could slap him for not asking the needed questions when he has these RWers in front of him.

But I have also seen Russert do a decent interview from time to time. I attribute it to coincidence, and not to any effort on his part to do a decent interview.

Memo to Tim Russert: Dick Cheney thinks he controls you.

This delicious morsel about the "Meet the Press" host and the vice president was part of the extensive dish Cathie Martin served up yesterday when the former Cheney communications director took the stand in the perjury trial of former Cheney chief of staff I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby.

Flashed on the courtroom computer screens were her notes from 2004 about how Cheney could respond to allegations that the Bush administration had played fast and loose with evidence of Iraq's nuclear ambitions. Option 1: "MTP-VP," she wrote, then listed the pros and cons of a vice presidential appearance on the Sunday show. Under "pro," she wrote: "control message."

"I suggested we put the vice president on 'Meet the Press,' which was a tactic we often used," Martin testified. "It's our best format."<emphasis added>
Russert's reputation is as a shill for the Bush administration.

263. The interview was terrible
It was full of the kind of stupid questions ABC asked during the last debate. I thought the whole show was going to be about Reverend Wright, a cheap GOP framed guilt by association smear. New polls show that hardly anybody but wingnuts cares about Reverend Wright, so he only fascinates GOP media shills like Russert. Russert didn't ask any questions about anything important until the grilling was almost over. By then it was too late for Russert. Obama had already badly kicked his ass.

Russert said, "Every interview I get is off the record unless I specify up front otherwise." That means he knows one thing and tells his viewers something else all the time. He's got to be as unethical as anybody out there.

Didn't Hillary throw thousands of American soldiers, and tens of thousands of Iraqis (if not more) under the bus with her vote to allow Bush's war?

155. I can't believe a Clinton supporter has the nerve to mention Rev. Wright
and complain about Obama throwing him under the bus. It was the Clinton campaign that helped to make Rev. Wright the angry black man of the week, and helped to destroy his reputation. Obama was finally forced to repudiate Rev. Wright in no uncertain terms and you have the unmitigated gall to criticize Obama for this? :grr:

300. Huh, so it's always the dread Hillary, omnipotent and darkly evil.....
"It was the Clinton campaign that helped to make Rev. Wright the angry black man of the week, and helped to destroy his reputation."

Ya know, I don't think anybody had to help make Rev. Wright the angry black man of the week. (Except maybe Barack himself.)Judging from his video footage, he just seems perpetually angry. Believe it or not, Hillary doesn't have the time to mess that much with somebody else's campaign, she's too busy trying to manage her own.

And thought it was a decent interview, although I can no longer stand Hillary - there's certainly no double standard here. She was far from "Presidential" though. Obama was.

Interesting that you bring up rev. wright, as Hillary's supporters do again and again. He's not running, you know.

278. Russert and Wallace might be cretins but not even close to the level of cretin that BillO is.
Appearing on BillO or Hannity or Rush Limbaugh (hey the Clintons have done two out of three) is the equivalency of legitimizing right wing talking heads as actual newsmen and that's what they are different. Wallace and Russert might be RW tools as well but their shows are supposed to be impartial interview show so appearing on those shows is, at least to the untrained political eye, something they are supposed to do.

BTW Hillary has also done Russert and I *think* she has done Wallace as well. Even if she didn't do Wallace (my memory is not clear on that) I know Bill Clinton did Wallace's show.

That sounds so good. His performance on MTP today shows that he has the intelligence, strength, and character to be one of our best Presidents. If he is elected I think the rest of the world would be proud of us being enlightened enough to elect an AA to be President. I'm planning to send a $25 donation to his campaign next week after I get paid. It's an investment in our country's future and my children's future.

The first time was a few months ago when I gave $15 to Obama. I would have given a lot more if I could. It made me feel really proud that I could do something to help this really great man became our President. We need someone with his intelligence and character to help our country recover after all the destruction of the Bush administration.

are on DU who are pro-Obama. We dislike Bush with a vengeance, why you think we did not join him in invading Iraq, my then PM was Chretien, bless his heart. If Harper was in power, he would have joined Bush, he is trying to be a mini-Bush. The whole world is rooting for Obama. Am from the Caribbean and I speak for most Caribbean people. 114. "I doubt it" implies you didn't watch it. If you did you would have to lie
about thinking it wasn't brilliant. Sometimes being brilliant isn't in the complexity in what one says but the simple way someone cuts through the BS and creates clarity. He did that today. Anyone that actually watched it would know it. Hey but thanks for your $2 donation to Obama. I said upstream I would kick in a few more for each ridiculous comment. Yours qualified.

One supporter of Senator Clinton says Senator Obama looked so good because Russert served him nothing but "softball" questions. Then you follow-up with that comment.

Which was it?

just for your edification, "Votes For Women" was a slogan of women suffragists, back when 'real men' and their ignorant female flunkies thought women weren't entitled to a voice in the government under whose laws they lived. my user name is a tribute to those great women who did the work to bring all of us a little closer to the equal rights and respect we deserve. you don't have a problem with women being allowed to vote, now do you?

185. He sounded like an Evangelical. Why did he have to say on Meet The Press, that he accepted Jesus as
his Lord and Savior? Why on earth would he proselytize? This is the kind of stuff that sounds like pandering, of the most amazing sort.

I must say I have little confidence that he would support the separation of Church and State. He proclaimed his allegiance to Jesus Christ in the FAUX interview, too.

We've had a POTUS for seven and a half years who used God and Jesus as a dogwhistle of sort to get the Religious Right in a tizzy. The RR needs to be de-powered, not empowered. They want Armegeddon for fuck's sake. And, they name drop Jesus with zero adherence to His teachings. But they act like they're all BFF with Him as they destroy the earth and the "least among us".

So is Sen. Obama the Evangelical candidate, or what? Or is he pandering?

of the poor, peace, equality among people. I have no doubt he will honor separation of church and state. I have no problem with him invoking the name of Jesus because I know he respects all religions. However, he has a close relationship with God and he shouldn't have to hide that.

pray privately? How do you KNOW anything about what he respects or doesn't respect. Especially because he's proclaiming how he's Jesus's buddy, meaning too bad for those who are Jewish, Hindu, atheists, wiccans, Buddists, Muslim and so on and so forth.

Bringing God and Jesus into the pulpit, excellent. Into doing good works, superb. Into the political world and especially a democracy that relies on not showing preference for ANY religion in governmental activities, not so good.

204. You know what --as a country WE'VE allowed the presidential race to become unconstitutional.
The constitution says there shall be no religious test for a candidate for political office -- but we've allowed it and allowed it and allowed it, and as a country now, whether we want to admit it or not, there is a tacit understanding that we are the United States of Christianity.

I'm disappointed Obama has not brought up the constitution in this matter, however, I also realize he's being realistic -- nobody wants to hear about the Constitution, what matters SO MUCH to people is whether he is, indeed, a good Christian.

Edited on Sun May-04-08 05:53 PM by BleedingHeartPatriot
I don't know anyone, personally, who's looking for a good Christian, everyone I know wants someone to fix this mess. And, the Jesus quoting ad nauseum POTUS we have now, has invoked scripture more from his "bully" pulpit than the last six presidents combined. And GOD, well, he reminds us constantly of that hotline he has set up between the Divine Father and himself.

Maybe someone who relied less on God and more on their own understanding of the world wouldn't be a bad thing. And, WE need to put a stop to it. It's extremely unconstitutional.

247. So he genuinely believes that anti-choice folks answer to a "moral calling"?
Edited on Sun May-04-08 06:35 PM by BleedingHeartPatriot
After he said that on the FAUX interview, I worry that he wouldn't be doing much to protect Roe v. Wade in his SCOTUS choices.

I should be grateful that I belong to a Christian denomination, because if I was a Jewish, or Buddhist or, vapors, Muslim or, double vapors,an atheist, I'd be a little worried right now. Wait a minute, I'm a Christian and I'm worried, so never mind.

BTW, that's my last :kick: to this thread, but if someone wants to donate a couple of bucks in my name to a Democratic candidate, I'm cool. But, I still say he's way too Evangelical.

Edited on Mon May-05-08 08:28 AM by higher class
Obama - adult
Timmy - little boy, pretending to be an adult, playing his manipulative game - a game that brings him big $$$$

So Joe, thanks for doing this.

Wish we could have a Zogby like poll that would rate the right wing so-called journalists who are only propaganda artists - a great waste of a degree - they could have just gone to a right wing training center such as Robertson provides to train right wing lawyer-government servants for the high job of firing real lawyers and like Blackwater military mercenary training camps.

Our tax dolloars - used AGAINST US. Don't forget it - ever! They use our hard earned money against us and let the bridges fall down or they blow them up as in Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq while they protect Usama bin Laden and a few other bin Ladens and lie to us about the melting and the water-air-land migratory species changes and dangers as well as about the denials of help to our soldier-kids and the utter destruction of a sovereign nation causing the worst kind of chemical deaths and death from the air, death from the raids, big time able bodies male prisoners, torture, humiliation, career endings, maiming, massacres, and exile. Every kind of torture that soulless humans can think of.

Republicans and some Democrats - into some really serious game playing.

291. I am beginning to think that all three leading presidential runners are
...resigned to the fact that America can not exist without war or preparations for war. So all three will hide that idea, but ease their voter base slowly into accepting this as fact.

McCain says we'll be in Iraq for 50 years or even 100 years if necessary. Hillary said the other day that if Iran develops nuclear bombs and uses them against Israel or in Iraq as president she would retaliate in kind and if necessary annihilate Iran.

And here Obama suggests that even as President it will be at least two years before a complete U.S. troop draw-down will be accomplished and he wants to add troops in Afghanistan, so really there won't be a draw-down in the region only a shift. Obama also knows that the military is strategically stressed because troop deployments have been extended far beyond what is practical, when means he knows that to fight on for years, there must be troop rotations at least every 12 months and that means many more military personnel in reserve...and that means bringing back the draft!

So there it is, no matter who our next president is, America will continue fighting and growing militarily.
