Great News !!! - Record 2.2 Million Ballots Going To Ore. Voters - AP
<snip>

SALEM, Ore. -- Over the years, Oregon Secretary of State Bill Bradbury has appeared at more than 100 high schools to urge young people to register and vote.

It hasn't taken much coaxing this year.

Around the state, elections offices this weekend are shipping a record-shattering 2.2 million mail ballots to registered voters, largely the result of a history-making presidential race that has brought out tens of thousands of new, younger voters.

Oregon's mail-in primary is one of the last in the nation -- votes are counted May 20. Most political insiders had assumed the fight between Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama would be decided long before now.

With all the interest the presidential race has generated, state elections officials say there are 62,673 first-time voter registrations this year. More than 36,000 of those are in the youngest group, ages 18-30.

1. See this has been my prediction for a while, and almost no pundits

talk about it. The "turnout" for this election is going to be enormous given it's size, and could have significant implications for the "popular vote" tally, for those counting

16. Yep, we will have to organize and insure those new and first time voters show up in November.
The truth is they are less reliable.

The good news is that we have a vast organization of community volunteers and we can get them to the polls if we work hard.

And we will win!

6. Are the ballots party specific - do you get a ballot for just one party?

11. Had to change my registration this year to dem........
Just to vote for Obama! (It's in the mail)

If it's any indication, our Eugene Saturday Market yesterday could not stock enough Obama buttons, bumperstickers, etc. as they were being snapped up faster than could be stocked.

12. Most us Oregonians are making a point to vote this primary
Because going back to Dem Party is our only way to get rid of repuke Gordon Smith, and we have a couple of good dems up against him. My vote goes for Steve Novick, who is totally awesome.

9. Oregon Ballots
...are indeed, party-specific. Three arrived at our house Friday. My husband changed his affiliation from Independent to Democratic so he could vote for Obama. Being the fair-minded person I am, I told him he was free to vote for Hillary...as long as he didn't mind sleeping in the garage.
