13. It also reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of the way gas is priced
right now. The retailers/refiners are going to keep exploring new highs no matter what happens to the gas tax; in fact, the day the gas tax goes on holiday, look for an increase in gas prices of roughly the same amount per gallon. There's no way we're getting through the summer without hitting at least $4, gas tax or no gas tax.

7. I swear the talking heads this morning had a worried look in their eyes
With the rising number of op-ed pieces all over newspapers and the web laying into the MSM for over playing the Wright issue in a blatantly obvious attempt to damage Obama coupled with his resilience in the polls they have to know that this isnt working anymore.

And yet, they have nothing else, so they are willing to throw away their remaining credibility and keep pushing Wright non stop through Tuesday.

They're extremely desperate.

9. I'd like to think it's because they are finally figuring out that the Web
is going to be the news source of choice for most folks, Real Soon Now.

IF they don't understand how irrelevant they are yet, I believe they will by the time November rolls around...

When I tune in to one of the Big Three - cnn, fax and msnbc they sound more like Jerry Springer and less like Cronkite. EVERY DAY they seem to degenerate even further away from real news.

11. I posted earlier that, from now on, if somebody asks Obama about Rev Wright...
...his stock answer should be "I covered that on Meet the Press...next question." America will accept that, even if the MSM doesn't like it.

20. I think the MSM is confused
When they tried to demonize and destroy Howard Dean with the idiotic "scream speech" that they played over and over for weeks, they succeeded in ruining his chance to be nominated. They are doing the same thing with this whole Rev. Wright distortion and it is not working and ruining Obama the way it did for Dean. So they are going to keep doing it until they get the result they want (HRC nominated) or until he is nominated. Whichever comes first. I think they have an idea of what substantial dirt the RW has got on HRC and are drooling at the prospect of the ratings they can get if McCain runs against HRC. The people who run the MSM have no heart or soul, all they care about is money and ratings.

23. Welcome to BLOWBACK!!!
Edited on Sun May-04-08 04:31 PM by backscatter712
Part of Obama's talent, and what helps him with his famous verbal jiu-jitsu is the phenomena of blowback.

I'm wondering if Obama deliberately kept somewhat quiet last week because he was luring Hillary and the media into pushing their attacks too far.

Whether he did or not, it's becoming clear that Hillary and the media moguls and the GOP have pushed the Wright thing waaaaay too far, and they're about to pay the price.

Realistically, Wright's a minor mishandling by Obama. If it was presented along with about a dozen more mishandlings just like it, establishing a pattern of misbehavior, it would seriously hurt him.

But Hillary and the media portrayed it as a campaign-destroying major fuckup. And for a while, the voters did eat it up, as seen in the polls. But now, they've had a couple nights to sleep on it and talk about it in the bars and at the dinner tables. You know what, they're wise to it now. You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time. They're realizing that the whole Rev. Wright thing is waaaaaaaaaaaay overblown, and the second-thoughts they were having about Obama are disappearing.

And the anger is starting to build - anger at having smoke blown up their asses, anger at being lied to, again.

Hillary will pay at the polls for this kitchen-sink maneuver. The media's by now getting overloaded with complaints, and their ratings are suffering, and their advertisers are balking, so pretty soon, they're gonna have to back off.

28. They do this every single election- just with slightly different "issues"
Edited on Sun May-04-08 05:10 PM by depakid
I think a more reasonable interpretation is that the BUILT OBAMA UP with astoundingly positive coverage for over a year- knowing full well (just as I and many others did) about the Wright videos.

The bottom line is that they perceive (and rightly so) that he's a weak candidate with a slim resume who's likely to go down to defeat (or have the election stolen) in November....

26. Actually, the MSM hates Hillary, and the Wright issue is affecting Obama against McCain
your analysis is flawed. You pretend the MSM wants Hillary to win, but...why then did they only start bashing Obama when they were done with Hillary, and when Hillary had no chance of catching up?
And why don't you post the graph where Obama is seen losing ground to McCain after the Wright comments?

29. That's nothing, wait unil they see this new
CBS/NY Times poll released today . . .

"He now leads presumptive Republican nominee John McCain in the hypothetical fall contest by eleven points, 51 percent to 40 percent. That compares to a tied match-up in a CBS News/New York Times poll that was released last Wednesday.

Positive assessments of how Obama has handled the situation with Wright are also reflected by a continued lead over fellow Democrat Hillary Clinton in his battle for their party’s nomination. Among Democratic primary voters (those who have voted or plan to vote in a Democratic primary) Obama’s lead over Clinton has increased -- he now leads Clinton by twelve points, 50 percent to 38 percent. That’s up from his eight point lead in the poll released just a few days ago.
