Yvonne Davis, Republican & Bush appointee, comes out for Obama
He Can Overcome
A Black Republican Woman Chooses Obama. Here's Why.
By YVONNE R. DAVIS
May 4, 2008

I am an African American Republican. I have a confession to make. I am an Obama "girl." Most black Republicans who support John McCain won't tell you this — but if Obama is the nominee for the Democratic ticket, they will go into the voting booth in November and vote Obama.

In 2005, when I was in Chicago on business, I attended NFL Hall of Famer Richard Dent's annual foundation fundraiser. My business associate, also a Republican and former executive director of the Massachusetts Republican Party, said he wanted me to meet a friend of his who was going places.

His friend was Sen. Barack Obama. All I knew about this light-skinned, cute boyish face-looking, kind of tall, lanky man was his great speech at the Democratic National Committee convention and his position against the war in Iraq.

1. I always thought 'black Republican' was a contradiction in terms. But I'm glad the sistah has come
to her senses. I wonder how proud she is to belong to the party of Willy Horton and Strom Thurmond and the one that left people to die after Hurricane Katrina.

I don't have one blood relative who has ever voted Republican, as far as I know (oh, by the way, I'm black). I bet there are a lot of black Repubs who are having a 'come to Jesus' moment thanks to Barack.

2. I've sometimes thought that it would be better for America if there were more black Republicans.
They would serve to temper the Republican party's extremist tendencies and prevent the Democratic party from taking its black supporters for granted. If both parties had to compete for black votes (and white, Hispanic, Asian, and Native American votes), the racial polarization that poisons so much our politics might be untenable. Yes, I might be naive -- but I can't help but imagine that, under such a scenario, someone like Limbaugh would have no political home.

3. "black Republicans who support John McCain..."
I expect that adds up to about 9 people. Well, glad to have their votes anyway.

6. You'd be surprise.....10% of African Americans are Republicans....
many more than that are Independents.

I think if we could even get 1/2 with Obama at the head of the ticket, that would be a good thing.

12. I know.
10% of 15% is 1.5%, and let's say 60% of them vote...9 people, like I said.

Hyperbole is my middle name. Jackpine Hyperbole Radical at yer service, Mme. Chatfrancais.

I am an Obama girl, however, your blanket statement about blacks not voting repuke, is a bit overstated.
The reason Dems are represented as a jackass is because before the turn of the century they were what repubs are today, not seen as being for the common man.

And to be honest, I am black, if McCain, had stayed the man he was 5 years ago when he was openly disagreeing with this current administration, I would have had a hard time choosing between Obama and McCain, but now the he has become McBush, oh and Clinton, McClinton, they helped make my decision for me.

Quiet as it's kept, if they take this nomination from Barack, you will get to see alot of blacks voting for McCain in Protest

4. Condi will be next, along with Colin Powell.
Condi certainly cannot resist the Barack Charm.

If you think she "cared" for Bush, you ain't seen nothing yet.

However, I hope Condi will not publicly endorse Obama, although she will be having fantasies about him late at night when she's alone! LOL!

And don't Blame Barack.....cause it is not his fault that he is so irresistable. This lure of his will come in handy, I'm betting on that.

18. A bit out there but I don't think Colin would be a stretch
He has said many favorable things about Obama. He might not agree with Obama on some issues but I think he respects his overall judgement. Remember Colin was hesistant to go to Iraq in the first place. He was handed the "cooked" intelligence reports to go out there and sell it. It is unfortunate for him that he did not see through Bush/Cheney. His reputation was really damaged by that..........

9. I liked the new word she coined: "Baracratize"
When I mentor young African American males, I now tell them to "Baracratize." They can do this without losing their identity.

10. Well better late than never I suppose.
I don't see what they see in the Republican party...I don't get it. But one more vote for a Dem puts us closer to the WH.

15. Amazing to me..she writes like
she's a Democrat but she serves bush..amazing. That was certainly interesting what she had to say about Wright..just what a lot on DU were saying about the "crabs in a barrel".

16. Heard her on the radio
with Colin McEnroe and she's under the delusion that there are a lot more moderates like her in her party than there are the far right loonies.
