Rules & Bylaws Committee Will Decide Fate of FL & MI On May 31
This was the same committee that stripped Florida and Michigan of their delegates back in 2007. So who the heck are these people, and for that matter, who do they support in the current contest between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton?

Here's the list:

Co-Chairs (both undeclared):

Alexis Herman Washington D.C. *1
James Roosevelt Jr. Massachusetts

Declared for Obama:

Allan Katz Florida *2
Thomas Hynes Illinois
Sarah Swisher Iowa
Janice Griffin Maryland
Martha Fuller Clark New Hampshire
Everett Ward North Carolina
Carol Khare Fowler South Carolina
Sharon Stroschein South Dakota

Declared for Clinton:

Alice Huffman California
Garry Shay California
Mona Pasquil California
Michael Steed Maryland
Elaine Kamarck Massachusetts
Donald Fowler South Carolina
Jaime Gonzalez Jr. Texas *3
Mame Reiley Virginia
Elizabeth Smith Washington D.C
Ben Johnson Washington D.C.
Eric Kleinfeld Washington D.C.
Harold Ickes Jr. Washington D.C.
Hartina Flournoy Washington D.C.

Undeclared:

Mark Brewer Michigan *4
Yvonne Gates Nevada
Ralph Dawson New York *5
Jerome Wiley Segovia Virginia
David McDonald Washington
Donna Brazille Washington D.C
Alice Germond West Virginia

Footnotes:

*1 Alexis Herman served as the first African American Secretary of Labor under Bill Clinton
*2 Allan Katz, though an Obama endorser, is from Florida and therefore may be inclined to seat Florida's delegation.
*3 Jaime Gonzalez Jr. was undeclared until just a few days ago. This could be indicative of how the Rules and Bylaws Committee will rule on the matter come May 31.
*4 Mark Brewer, though undeclared, is from Michigan and therefore may be inclined to seat Michigan's delegation.
*5 Ralph Dawson is the only undeclared New York Super Delegate. All other New York Super Delegates have endorsed Senator Clinton. Ralph Dawson is the member of the Rules and Bylaws Committee who initally introduced the ruling that stripped Florida and Michigan of their delegates.

18. Exactly. If the next election (2012) is one of these 'you vote, delegates decide' deals..
Edited on Sun May-04-08 07:14 PM by Triana
...I WILL NOT vote. No point.

In this one, if it's not Obama, I'll write him in.

I am DISGUSTED with this whole process. It stinks to high heaven.

OBAMA WASN'T EVEN ON THE BALLOT IN MICHIGAN - they're going to count delegates from a state where only one contender was on the ticket?!

4. So she will get them seated. Just terrific. *sigh*
Who the hell cares about rules anyway.

7. No, she won't
These are the folks entrusted with the rules. Think of them as judges. They will need to keep their personal preferences out of it. A few of them may not be successful, but I am confident that enough of them will do the right thing.

9. Harold Ickes, who vehemently supported stripping the delegates
has said he now supports seating them as-is.

Looks like Florida and Michigan have always been Hillary's final firewalls.

12. I'd say there's probably 13 definite for seating
15 if you count the Florida and Michigan delegates on the committee.

That leaves just one more delegate needed to seat.

How do you feel about the rest of those uncommitted delegates up there? I'm a bit leary of the one from West Virginia, to be truthful.

20. What or who is your source for your estimate of 13?
I notice that 13 on the rules committee are declared to support Clinton. If you are saying that this means that they will each support the seating of MI and FL, I do not agree.

24. That's precisely what I mean
And you are free to disagree.

We'll know come May 31. There's little that can be done to alter the outcome at this late date.

only undeclared members should be allowed to vote on the matter.

But keep in mind that if Obama picks up 134 more delegates by May 20, he'll probably be joined by enough superdelgates by May 31 to make him the presumptive nominee.

15. That's the magic number of 2025
If Florida and Michigan are seated as-is, the Magic Number goal post gets moved to 2209.

So Obama will be the winner, and the R&BC can move the goal posts to make Hillary the winner.

8. Thank you
for providing this important information.

I just posted a few paragraphs from a recent TIME article that discuss the situation as an OP on the "threat" of the Clinton campaign attempting to use a "nuclear option."

Nominated.

13. Better think that one through again
Hillary's team has quietly pushed her surrogates into uncommitted slots in Michigan.

On top of that, the vast majority of declared suepr delegates from Florida and Michigan have gone to Hillary.

17. That's why Hillary Mcbu$h wants to change the rules suddenly Re: MI and FL
so she can "win".

Welp. She lost my vote long ago. So if all those Clinton loyalists I see on that list, above, shove her in there - she still won't get this person's vote.

So be it.

21. But the composition of the Credentials Committee
will have to take into account the results of Florida and Michigan because the Rules and Bylaws Committee will have decided prior to the seating of the Credentials Committee.

Checkmate.

23. They will hear the case on May 31. They won't necessarily decide then
It seems to me that it is likely they will wait until the primaries are over to issue a decision.
