by responding to childish baiting comments.

Some people can't stand good news about Clark - even people that said they were former Clark supporters.

To me - 1000 people turning out to hear Wes Clark is wonderful, and a sign of good things to come.

If so, where?

I was in the left hand choir seats, beside the woman who asked the "medicare reform" question.

BTW, the official count was over 1500. This morning when we were setting up the basement room, we asked the advance people about the space. Last night, we knew that there were plenty of people coming. Anyway, another volunteer and I sneaked upstairs to admire that fabulous UU church. We were musing how that was the space that Clark should be speaking in. And then the magic happened.

I got the 1000 from the Clark campaign people - the link claims more than 800. Still amazing. Sign of good things to come.

I was in NH today, canvassing. People are remarkably polite and very interested in the primary. Heard lots of ABB or anybody but bush - which is very good.

16. Reports from the Clark blogs......
New Hampshire voters swarm to see Clark!

Saturday, Wes Clark was meeting residents in downtown Portsmouth, New Hampshire, when people began to pour out of stores to walk with him down the street. They followed him to South Church, for a "Conversation with Clark."

The Conversation was scheduled to take place in the basement, and organizers were expecting a crowd of about 200. More than 800 people showed up. The event was quickly moved upstairs to the main sanctuary.

One Clark staffer in attendance called the reaction to Clark, "amazing."

"Something good is happening in New Hampshire," he said.

AND

as ri coordinator for ri vols going to nh, i received a first hand report of the portsmouth event. I was told there were 1000 there and folks had to be turned away. i was also told that most folks departing the event picked up lawn signs to post by their homes on the way out.

"Ke nignehore". How do I know this? I've found a Yiddish site that has common expressions. I know and use dozens of Yiddish expressions, more than I even realised (I'm from NYC), but spelling them is a different matter, so I needed help. :)

His disclaimer:

Please don't ask me for the proper spelling of Yiddish word in English
Since the Yiddish word is being transliterated using the English alphabet, it's a "best guess" process anyway. I assume phonetically based, instead of a strict Hebrew character to English character mapping. Thus, your spelling is as "proper" as other variations of spelling that a person may come up with.

It's a cool site. http://www.koshernosh.com/dictiona.htm

I was squeezed into half a seat when another volunteer put her daughter on her lap. My friends were sitting on the floor with many others in the front. The entire walk space at the back of the church was packed with those who were standing. And finally the balcony which was packed, also had people standing so close you couldn't see the doors.

I did a sample head count of what I could see, and extrapolated from there.

get as much as his poll numbers, it's a loss for Dean even if he wins. Dean should be expected to do well in a neighboring state. If Clark comes anywhere close, it's the "Comeback Kid, redux."

30. Another report--200 turned away went across the street, Clark visited them
Edited on Sat Jan-03-04 10:16 PM by Gloria
Another forwarded e-mail posted to the Clark Comment page just now..
Seems Clark went across the street to the restaurant with the turnaways and gave them their own meeting....

Looks like another breakfast will be shown live on CSPAN 1 at 8 am ET with later repeats....

Here's the report:

Well, we got off a bit early for Sat night, so I have a few minutes
to write. There was a sign of a major turn today that had everyone
very excited. As you know, the candidates come up and have two or 3
events each day -- pancake breafast, town hall, etc. In addition,
they have several events in between such as stopping by the police
station, photo op with the firemen, etc. Usually the candidates get
200 or so people at each event. They are held in small locales such
as Foreign legion halls or churches. Slowly the buzz has started
picking up about Clark -- we think as people get nervous about Dean,
they started looking at Clark and now like what they see. Because
he had another town hall meeting in Portsmouth today (not a huge
town). It was held in the basement of a local church. They
expected 200. Almost 1000 people showed up. This was
unprecedented. They moved it into the congregational part of the
church. Still 200 people had to be turned away, so they sent them
across the street to a restaurant, and when Clark was done, he went
over there to talk to them. The press was dumbfounded. The
pictures are great -- news.yahoo.com has some good ones of the
event. We'll see how the press handles this one. Staffers are
excited about this.

Tomorrow morning I get a break from canvassing and calling and will
buss tables at Clark's Pancake Breakfast at the Foreign Legion
Sweeney Post Hall in Manchester. It starts at 8am Eastern and will
be carried live by C-span then replayed several times during the
day. 500 people are expected.
*******

THere is another long post on the blog reporting about how guys stood outside with a couple of signs and more and more cars passed by and they were getting a reaction. They began to think the hall would be too small...and they were right. This huge turnout started with a few signs at an intersection....WOW!!!

And that's the problem, IMHO. There's NEVER any stories "on the main pages." And we wonder why Dean has better name recognition?

I get the daily email from Democrats.com. Now I know they're supporting Kucinich, they've been upfront about that. But that hasn't stopped them from including items about other candidates in their news briefs. Except Clark, that is.

And, they're supposed to be on *our* (Democratic) side.

I'm very, very disappointed in them.

45. So when will there be pictures of the crowd?
With all those Clark Supporters flooding the streets of Portsmouth there has to be at least one person with a photo or two to share. Clark's campaign must have taken pictures of this event. I remember the Dean campaign had pictures up on their website almost instantly when he drew those big crowds. This event was 9 hours ago, so why no pictures? I've checked google news, yahoo news photos, NH network news websites, online news sources and not a single mention or photo. Surely this kind of a crowd in small NH must be documented with some pictures.

let alone 1000. I'm sure he attracted a good crowd, but I strongly suspect the number is being highly exaggerated, that's all.

Oh, and I did look at the pictures and got the impression that, indeed, the crowd number was exaggerated.

74. One press report

"PORTSMOUTH - There was little room to maneuver on Saturday afternoon as Democratic presidential candidate Gen. Wesley Clark visited the South Church after a short walk through downtown Portsmouth.

Before the retired Army general’s arrival, supporters were seen breaking out additional chairs, and the second-story balcony was filled to capacity with additional supporters hoping to hear the candidate speak during his campaign stop.

Every pew was filled and the rear aisles were packed with people shoulder to shoulder as Clark made his way into the church to greet supporters and speak on patriotism and family values, and to mention the names of a few potential running mates."

Incredible! I'm so happy for Wes! That must have felt so good to have 600 more people than expected show up.

I just can't wait to see the next NH poll. :bounce:

72. He's hasn't disappointed yet as far as his character..
and style goes. He's "bobbled" a coupla times, but Dean has him beat in that regard right now.

76. You are right
If he only had more time...everyone would be on his side. Even all the Deanies. They would see that Clark really is the best one for the job and the best one to beat Bush. Please Deanies...switch to Clark. Dean got the Democrats attention. Now let Clark carry the baton and get the country and the world's attention.

78. per new DU rules you can't address Dean supporters by any other name but
"Dean supporters" or perhaps "Dean folk"

You should edit the post! :)
