A great bit in the movie, "Better Off Dead" with John Cusack, has this crazed paperboy chasing Cusack's character throughout the movie trying to collect two dollars from him for newspaper delivery. The kid constantly screams, "I want my two dollars!!!!!" And the paperboy goes to some really crazy extremes trying to collect it. Very funny stuff.
I saw part of the movie last night (I've seen it probably 8 times!), and after it was done, all I kept thinking of - was Hillary. I know, its a little strange, and not the segue you expected; perhaps I'd better explain.
How much cash did Hillary raise in April? All of the reports are not in, but my estimates following the PA primary put her cash raised in April at around $20 million. But, how much of this did she spend in PA? Again, the numbers aren't in, so we don't know.
In
March, Clinton took in $20.1 million - WHILE SHE SPENT $21.5 MILLION.
If April turns out anything like March, we're probably looking at a negative balance for April.
Clinton is $15 million in debt, and keeps moving the goal posts back for her withdrawal from the race, despite there being
no numerical way for her to win all of the delegates she needs. From
AP, today:
Clinton's main hope for winning the nomination is to persuade most of the roughly 220 superdelegates still undecided to disregard {Obama's} lead in the delegate chase and support her instead. The Clinton campaign also hopes to get a boost by getting delegates from Michigan and Florida seated.
Obama
stated that he feels Clinton will stay in the race all the way until June 3rd. I happen to agree. Clinton is still very deeply in debt, and until her supporters get her $15 million ABOVE her ongoing campaign expenses, she will stay in this race. Period.
If she loses Indiana tomorrow (Obama winning NC is pretty much a foregone conclusion), given the delegate math, I don't believe there is any way she will be able to win - even if Florida and Michigan get seated. In other words, if Clinton loses Indiana, any remaining argument - that makes any sense whatsoever - for her to stay in the race, will pretty much evaporate.
So if Clinton stays in the race after an Indiana loss, I think there is only one motive that would explain such illogic:
She ain't taking no $15 million out of her own pockets - no friggin' way!!!
That, is what her supporters are for...
