http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2008/05/obama_accused_of_being_a_musli.html

--snip--

One of his first encounters went poorly. He approached a man sitting
alone at a table and was waved away. The man told me afterward he had no
interest in meeting Obama.
"I can't stand him,'' he said. "He's a Muslim. He's not even
pro-American as far as I'm concerned.''

--snip--

How can people still believe this shit? I just don't get it.

And it also predicts what sort of news they will find trustworthy and what they will dismiss as propaganda. Reverend Wright was just a reason for people looking for a reason, any reason, not to like him.

87. BINGO!
White people (still, sadly) look for excuses to hate and fear a black man.

In many respects, it is becoming increasingly clear to me that for one reason among many others it might be a true blessing for this country for Obama to be elected President: It would demonstrate once and for all to white people that they don't need to FEAR black men.

This is coming from a white Southern 51-years-old male, FWIW.

I'm always disappointed when someone chooses ignorance over information. It's not often you get to meet a presidential candidate in person, and this guy passed up a chance to challenge Obama about matters on which he disagreed with him, but turned it down. Oh well, you can't please everyone.

Actually, I think that was the bright side of the situation.
Some people cannot be swayed. I am glad Obama did not have to spend a second of his time kowtowing to that man. The man simply was not worth it...move on to someone with a more open mind.

I much prefer someone to tell me they don't like me than to smile in my face.

I didn't mention some guy who walked by my Obama table this past weekend. You could spot him a mile away. He was glaring right at me and as he walked away he turned around to look back practically baring his teeth. We're talking a nutjob.

31. Dumb Rednecks-
Don't really have the cognitive ability to discern the finer points between a man's name and his religion, and they also view all Muslims with rabid suspicion. They also don't have the reading comprehension beyond a 2nd grade level to read "Dreams From My Father" or "The Audacity of Hope." These pork chewers will never realize what a brilliant man their next president is. They will only see color. And they are all the poorer for their profoundly ignorant view of the world.

I used to say back in 2000 and 2004 that Americans get the president they deserve, but the idiot Rednecks are getting a much much better president then they deserve.

63. "I can't stand her," she said. "She's a Republican. She's not even a progressive afaiac".
We have little room to ridicule low information voters.

67. Sounds like SOMEBODY'S not doing a great job of getting his message out.
You can insult people all you want. It's not always THEIR fault if they're misinformed. Insulting them isn't going to get them to vote for your candidate.

The nonstop Wright coverage pretty much cancels out the Muslim meme.
This idiot in the diner has no excuse.

on DU that think it is impossible for the Dems to lose in November...just remember his low-brows comments. How do you think Bush got elected?

I am so tired of the radical supporters on this board telling the rest of us that we are "gloom" and "doom" when it comes to Obama's electability. They don't seem to understand that America has been dumbed down so far that it won't take much to completely invalidate Obama. Those on the right are gearing up the smear machine...this was too important to take this kind of risk.

And if you are wondering...they would completely dismantle Hillary too.

Just imagine if we had someone like Joe Biden as out nominee. Just what could the right-wing smear machine do to him? Nothing!

You blew it America. Can you say: "President McCain?"

82. So it's over? Give up? McCain will be President?
Why even try? We blew it with Hillary and Obama so we should just submit and not even try to work for the Democratic nominee?

Bullshit. You suck.

think about it. Actually there are some wonderful Hoosiers out there in Indy and the college towns, but some are scary.

84. Absolutely right IronLion
Indiana is a fairly "diverse" state when it comes to demographics. And not along the traditional lines either. You have the Amish and other Pennsylvania folks in the NE, the mini Chicago in the NW, the mini Illinois in the West, the mini KKK capital of the world in Martinsville, a thriving black community in Indianapolis along with a bunch of yuppies, a little Kalamazoo in Bloomington, and more than a little taste of Appalachia in surrounding southern Indiana.

There are ALOT of gomer piles in Indiana as well as a lot of other types. But there's little chance of a Dem victory in Indiana this November.
