... who went GOP as a result of Nixon's "Southern Strategy." He's the symbol of how Democrats "ate their own" in the repeated struggle to wrest away control of the Democratic Party from the "New Dealers" and "leftists." This has been going on since the 1930s as the plutocrats and robber barons and fascists have waged a constant war against "government of the people, by the people, and for the people."

Even today, the crypto-fascists LOVE to use him as an example of the "liberal" that "can't win." That's the continued voice of corporatism.
