KNOXVILLE (AP) -- If sales of T-shirts, pins and yard signs is a barometer, the presidential campaigns are building interest in Tennessee.

Even in Republican-leaning East Tennessee, merchandise is moving fast for the John Kerry-John Edwards' Democratic ticket.

Tennessee Democratic Party chairman Randy Button says a store at the Knoxville Kerry for President headquarters has been the busiest in the state.

Knox County Democratic party official Wade Till says merchandise sales already are ahead of four years ago when favorite son Al Gore was leading the ticket.

Between $10,000 and $12,000 worth of merchandise has been sold and more is on order. The Knoxville office supplies all of East Tennessee. Sales have taken off with the Democratic National Convention opening Monday in Boston.

1. I bought my K/E stuff at the Knox
Kerry HQ off Middlebrook next door to the Harper's Bike shop.

Irony is the HQ being next to the bike shop as Kerry is so much involved in outdoor activities!
