1. It was a friendly conversation
He's not allowed to have that? You one of those people wondering why Wolf didn't ask him where his flag lapel pin was?

What questions did you want to hear asked? Stop crying if you don't have any thought up.

3. I'd like to know....
...whether he will

1. make a pledge to restore the provisions of the Constitution that Bush has violated or set aside

2. make a pledge to vigorously pursue war crimes of the Bush administration

3. make a pledge to allocate money toward a special prosecutor to investigate the politicization of the Department of Justice

4. make a pledge to (in whatever lawful manner) undo the signing statements Bush has attached to laws

That's a start.

4. I know for a fact he has made pledge to No. 1
He said some time ago, and more than once, that he would have his Atty Gen go through all the executive orders and rescind any that were not constitutional, he would restore Habias Corpus and close Quantanamo. There's probably a youtube somewhere. This probably answers No. 4, as well.

I THINK he has alluded to special investigions for some things. But I will say that he would have to be very careful about making any of these assertions during this election process.

Hope this helps.

21. no
He can pledge to do certain things. He can say, as an example, "When I am in the White House, I will order the Justice Department to investigate yadayada."

Not "I'll look at......"

Obama wows Casper; Clinton next
http://www.denverpost.com/ci_8492078

CASPER — Barack Obama told a cheering crowd at a town hall meeting in Casper today that he would restore respect for law in the White House by reviewing every executive order issued by President George W. Bush and discarding any deemed unconstitutional.

Obama's comments came in response to a question from a man in the audience who said he worried that presidents sometimes consider themselves above the law.
.
(snip)
In his speech, Obama praised the libertarian spirit of Westerners — Republicans and Democrats alike — and condemned the Bush administration's use of warrantless wiretaps and a willingness to hold prisoners without charges.
"There's nothing Republican about that. Everyone should be outraged by that," he said.

As president, he said he would ask his attorney general "to review every executive order" of the Bush administration. "We are going to overturn those that were unconstitutional. We are going to overturn those that are unnecessary."

His answer drew a standing ovation from a mostly Democratic audience at the Casper Recreation Center.

7. Answers (from what I know)
1. Obama has already said in a townhall meeting about a week or two ago in response to a similar question that one of his first orders of business will be to get his attorney general to look at all of the provisions that Bush has done and get rid of any that are unconstitutional. He gets asked this fairly often in his Q&A sessions with voters.

2. Obama made some news about a month ago in an interview when he said that his office would look at any war crimes committed by the previous administration. I think that's why Congress is in no rush to prosecute Bush people. Don't want Bush to pardon them as he's leaving office. I don't remember the link, but read it from the Huffington Post.

3. I think he's talked about this many times before, by criticizing Bush abusing his political power in the Department of Justice. Not sure if he has ever said that he will have a special prosecutor for it though. Probably not necessary since he's going to appoint the new Attorney General and he can tell the AG not to politicize the DOJ.

4. Don't know the constitutionality of this. The President cannot initiate legislation. Therefore, he can't undo signing statements by the previous President. This might fall under the 'restore provisions of the Constitution that Bush has violated' area though. A President is not obligated to follow signing statements, so I don't think it's necessary to repeal every one of Bush's signing statements if no intent is there to abuse them. Plus it may not be practical since Congress might have to pass a new bill on each one.

14. I wasn't quoting him directly
I think it's plainly clear what he's been saying. Is 'investigate' better for you? Fine. His AG will 'investigate' all of Bush's provisions and get rid of any that are unconstitutional. The important part is that he's pledged to get rid of Bush provisions that are unconstitutional and he will delegate part of that responsibility to the Attorney General. Not sure how you can interpret that as him beating around the bush on that question.

Oh, I just realized that I used the word 'is' without defining it too.

18. This is the way it works.
Someone asks: "Will you pledge tonight to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate war crimes of the Bush administration?"

And the candidate says "Yes."

That's a pledge.

"Look at" means squat.

29. I don't even support Hillary
I supported Edwards. Edwards was willing to make some direct pledges. When asked if he would pledge to ban mercenaries from U.S. employment, he said YES. A direct YES.

Why can't Obama do that? Ask him a question and get a YES? Not a weasel reply?

let the young people have their way

but they bought it and now they own it

if things get rough, and they might, they better get their lazy butts out on those streets

I paid my dues there in a movement that made this possible for Obama, but between then and now I think we've slipped back.

They think they can wash their hands of their own apathy by voting for this man, it's not that easy.
