I'm about to ignore Obama's advice.
I'm headin' to Popeyes to get a big ol' box of chicken, cole slaw, and biscuits.

I'll probably eat what's left cold tomorrow morning, and my son will, too--because we consider it a morning delicacy, kinda like cold pizza.

So, anyone want me to bring them anything? List your Popeyes request, and I'll try to accomodate ya.

:D

I had some at a funeral dinner yesterday, but I was, you know, kinda careful not to take too much.

So I just had a wing.

But it left me with a crazying, so I'll go get me a big box and munch down. :D

31. To a crowd of African Americans in Beaumont, TX...
Edited on Thu May-08-08 06:46 PM by Maddy McCall
right before the Texas primary.

I've got to talk about us a little bit," said Obama. "We can't keep on feeding our children junk all day long, giving them no exercise. They are overweight by the time they are 4 or 5 years old, and then we are surprised when they get sick."

"I know how hard it is to get kids to eat properly," Obama said. "But I also know that if folks letting our children drink eight sodas a day, which some parents do, or, you know, eat a bag of potato chips for lunch, or Popeyes for breakfast.

"Y'all have Popeyes out in Beaumont? I know some of y'all you got that cold Popeyes out for breakfast. I know. That's why y'all laughing. ... You can't do that. Children have to have proper nutrition. That affects also how they study, how they learn in school."

36. Ah. Bill Clinton is probably on board on with this...
...and no, this is not a McDonald's joke. Before the campaign started, Bill lobbied to get vending machines off of grade school campuses, and I was 100% on board with it.

But most schools now allow fast food restaurants (including Popeye's, I'm guessing) to peddle their wares directly on campus during lunch. Why not? It's cheaper than giving them hot lunches at the cafeteria--who cares if it makes our kids dangerously unhealthy! :sarcasm:

You don't disagree with this sentiment, do you?

68. I might have to disagree with our future President on this one
Cold fried chicken may not be the ideal breakfast food, but it's a hell of a lot more nutritious than a breakfast cereal made from GMO corn and sweetened with High Fructose Corn Poison. And topped off with Bovine Growth Hormone milk.

Shit, buy a bucket of chicken on monday, and eat it for breakfast all week long, if that's the alternative.

29. no thanks. I prefer my own homemade fried chicken
soak it in buttermilk for an hour or so, dip in seasoned flour then beaten egg, then seasoned flour again. Dry it on a cake rack for a few minutes and then fry in a couple of inches of vegetable oil in a big old deep cast iron pan. Delicious.

49. Something quick, if you don't mind
I've never had one, been wanting to get one.

Is it true that they're nonstick?

Is it safe to wash them with soap and water regularly, or is it better to usually do a wipe and rinse to preserve seasoning? I've heard conflicting opinions.

How often do they have to be seasoned?

61. Yes, they're pretty much non stick. You can wash them with soap
but I prefer to justs wipe and rinse. I generally use really hot water to rinse it, and dry it by putting it over flame. I've only seasoned mine a handful of times over the years, and that's when I have cooked something in it that's stuck- like something with a high sugar content.

And they make the best cole slaw I've ever tasted anywhere.

69. thanks for not posting a photo of a watermelon.
That would be inappropriate, since Obama's never raised the subject of watermelon, unlike fried chicken. And since you also like fried chicken, there's no harm in posting a politically neutral DU Lounge-type post on General Discussion: Primaries consisting of fried chicken, the same day Hillary refers to "Obama's support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans"; it's not like anyone could possibly perceive that as insensitive.
Food, Race and Tragedy

By RUSSELL BAKER
Published: May 3, 1997

The world of sport has been in shock for days about dietary remarks made by one golfer about another.

The golfer about whom these remarks were made is Tiger Woods. It is pertinent to note that Mr. Woods is an Afro-Asian-American. The golfer who made them is a Euro-American, one Fuzzy Zoeller.

In a brief and casual encounter Mr. Zoeller intimated, in what he says was intended to be a humorous vein, that Mr. Woods's preference in dining ran to fried chicken and collard greens.
