Obama supporters, it's time to start acting like winners
Edited on Fri May-09-08 10:42 PM by Hippo_Tron
And that means no matter how upset you are by something Clinton or her supporters have said during the primaries, it's really time to move on. Winners don't sit around and complain about how mean their opponents were to them. They don't do that because it's moot point. You won, they lost, end of story. Time to move on to bigger and better things: in this case, the general election.

As for Clinton supporters, some of them are going to have grievances but that comes with the territory of losing. When Kerry lost in 2004 we spent countless hours talking about how the campaign Bush ran against him was absolutely disgusting. And frankly we had every right to. We firmly believed that Kerry was the better person for the job, but that he lost due to the dirty tactics used against him.

My point is that being it's okay to be a sore loser (for a certain period of time, anyway). Losing isn't fun. It's even less fun when you're very emotionally invested in a candidate like some Clinton supporters are. It's natural to be angry that your candidate lost.

Being a sore winner, on the other hand, is just plain stupid.

are exactly why we haven't "moved on." Because from the beginning, the Clinton supporters have heaped vile abuse on Obama supporters, and you are still doing it. When your lunatic candidate finally slinks away and her deluded minions shut the hell up, we will start to "act like winners."

3. according to clinton, obama hasn't won anything
so how is this time for healing? isn't Obama supporters "acting like winners" going to piss of the clinton supporters who say "he hasn't won anything yet"?

it's a full blown war right now in the primary race, regardless of how absurd it is to even spend another dime on this primary since the result is now without question. until clinton drops out, it's full blown game-on. this whole question of "healing our party" is far different than "healing DU".

Healing our party I very much care about.

Healing DU not so much.

I am not one of the people who confuse DU with real life. I am also not one of those people who confuse the online rantings of people on internet message boards with the candidate that they support.

Frankly, in order to heal the party, we need Clinton to drop out ASAP. I will do everything in my power to make that happen, so that we can move to the next stage when we can start to heal.

Until that time, you're wasting time and spinning wheels. It's only going to get worse and it absolutely is NOT time to lay down arms. Unless the mods start to tombstone people :) which is a likely conclusion if this thing runs into June.

5. well said. i think i've posted more today than i have in the last year total.
and its because i'm simply dumbfounded that these arguments aren't going away, and not only that, they are getting WORSE. as long as things continue down this path, with Clinton folks coming up with new arguments, metrics, divine intervention strategies, etc, Obama supporters HAVE to push back to some degree. For reality's sake.

6. She's not hurting Obama by staying in until June
Obama doesn't have the super delegate bomb yet, but the trickle is enough that she can't win and everybody knows it. As long as she's out by June, we can let her exit at her own pace.

12. It isnt' going to make a dime's worth of difference in the GE if she drops out now or in 3 weeks
General Elections are won in September and October, not in May.

If she stays in after June then we have a problem because Obama does need the summer to unite the party and raise money. But giving her until June to exit on her own terms is going to help unite the party in the long run.

25. The last time a primary opponents words were useful to the opposition...
Was Ted Kennedy in 1980. And that was useful because Kennedy took it all the way to the convention and was still fresh in the memory of the American people.

Hillary, like other primary opponents in the past, will be irrelevant once she drops out.

Mostly because there is just no way for her to get there. Obama is going to get enough delegates that even if he seats Florida and Micighan with their fake elections, she can't win.

44. Al Gore never ran an ad about Willie Horton, he brought it up in a debate
And it didn't resonate because Al Gore just mentioned it as a screw-up by Dukakis. Bringing up Willie Horton wasn't the issue. It was public knowledge and any opposition research team would've had it in their file. Willie Horton was about how Lee Atwater elevated it from a fuck-up by Dukakis to a bigger issue about crime and race. Al Gore had absolutely nothing to do with that.

53. In the way she is running her campaign, Clinton is damaging the Democratic Party.
It isn't merely Obama that Hillary is harming with her desparate, scorched earth campaign. She harms the entire Democratic Party.

Obama is running on a platform of "change". Considering all of the ways in which the Republicans stymie the operation of the government, the Democrats need to get not only the presidency, but need to get more Democrats in Congress and other offices down ticket.

Clinton's divisiveness and her attacks on a fellow Democrat makes the party look weak, and can only hurt our candidates in the general election. Clinton is either very naive politically, or she is purposely sabotaging the party for not anointing her the nominee.

In either case, if she doesn't concede the nomination after the next round of primaries and throw her support to Obama, but rather insists on continuing the negative attacks on him, then the party has no choice but to shut down her campaign to prevent further damage to the entire party, not just Obama.

as you said: "they lost"

so why isn't the primary over? why is the nominee being dragged through the mud buy one of our own? to many people, it simply seems incredibly hurtful.

attempting to unite as Democrats before Clinton drops out is like trying to stop the tide. before it gets better, it will get worse. there is no way to stop it, except to declare a nominee and have Clinton exit the race.

If they post anything, it is time to fully ignore them,

Especially the real bad BS that is meant to get your blood boiling

No more questions

I had my fun, and I gave them reasons why it is time to unify behind the presumptive candidate

They will do that (most of them) in due time.

It is never fun to loose, but it time to disengage... and just let them have a very nice echo chamber.

It's still happening.http://thepage.time.com/2008/05/09/clinton-keeps-up-attacks-on-obama-goes-after-health-care-plan/ >

She can't help herself. Before any Clinton supporter tells anyone to back off, they should tell their candidate to stop the negative attacks on our presumptive nominee. And, all those people who thought she needed to take some time to "process" the situation (which is a very bizarre concept, by the way)....well, she's using that time to attack Obama.

By letting Hillary continue her assault on Obama, her supporters and her campaign are all aiding and abetting McCain and his quest for a third Bush term. We'd much rather be fighting the battle against McCain. But, it's the "deluded also-ran" (the AP's words, not mine) who keeps the intra-party fight going.

There will be no unilateral disarmament. To even suggestion is just fucking stupid.

Look - I'm a Clinton supporter who agrees with you. The chances of Clinton winning this are very very slim. The only thing that would give her the nomination is if Obama goes completely down the tubes because of some MAJOR misstep on his part - or becasue of a HUGE scandal - much worse than the Wright stuff.

It doesn't look like that's going to happen.

I simply cannot figure out why Obama people would continue to act like losers when it is about 90% sure they have won. Instead of reveling in their victory - they continue to beat up on the losers.

Is this the type of people Clinton supporters would like to be? Do you know that we understand how you feel and we are not provoking any type of behavior toward you, by gloating or behaving in any way to provoke you to dump on Obama?

54. We are upset because Clinton's campaign is damaging the entire Democratic Party.
Obama's campaign is succeeding based on the premise that it is time for a "change" in the way Washington does business. To accomplish this change, we need a strong, united party.

Clinton's desperate, scorched earth campaigning and her bad-mouthing Obama presents an image of a weak, divided party. This not only hurts the party in the presidential race, but hurts Democrats running for Congress and down ticket races. Clinton is sabotaging the entire Democratic Party.

If she doesn't bow out and throw her support to Obama after the next round of primaries, then the party, for self-preservation, has to shut down her campaign. From here on out, her negative campaigning can only damage the party.
