Iron and clay just don't mix.
I had the opportunity to watch the replay of Larry King Live tonight.

The debate:
--"he can't win"
--does HClinton have still have a chance to win the democratic nomination?
--did HClinton play the race card?

Carole Simpson's comments were by far, the most disappointing. From her perspective, "white people won't vote for Barack Obama simply becasue he's black"

Who is Carole Simpson?
-1st african american female anchor on a major news network (ABC)
-1st female to host a presidential debate
-College journalism professor
-Advocate for the empowerment of women in the work place

It's stunning to learn that a black woman, who has accomplished so much, and who has been able to reach so many milestones, would harbor such negative views.

Carole Simpson has the right to support, whoever she chooses.

While I appluad her for all of her successes in life, it is extremely disappointing and surprising that she of all people, she would harbor and publicly display such devisive and unproductive views.

Iron and clay just don't mix.

It's ironic that her statements and her attidue, are not reflective of her very own accomplishments.

:banghead: "that don't go together" :banghead:

1. She's from the old school......and she's one of about 8 percent.....
who actually started believing what White Society says about Black People long ago.

There are about 8-10% of them out there.

2. I agree
The more I read about who she is, I began to really see that in almost every instance, she carries the same views. It echoes on every page. Her general attitude and comments are usually reflective of those who have not been able to accomplish many of thier own dreams and goals. It's ironic that inspite of all that she has accomplished, (being black and female), she can't see past the color of her own skin. It's no wonder that she would not believe that others can.

3. Little chemistry correction: iron and clay are very strongly attracted to each other...
Iron, by itself, has one positive charge (+1), making it a cation. This makes it strongly attracted to clay particles' cation exchange sites. When iron is in the form of ferric or ferrous iron, it has an even stronger attraction to clay (ferric has +3 charge, ferrous has +2.

The way that plants access nutrients like iron, calcium, magnesium and other cations (cations have positive charges, anions have negative charges) is this: The nutrient/mineral gets into the soil (either by natural process or you slop some fertilizer on it) and when moving through the soil (usually with water) the cation/mineral/nutrient latches onto a cation exchange site. From there it is in the right form for plant roots to access it. (Actually, the mineral or whatever is sucked towards the root by the negative pressure in the root, which is due to the plant losing moisture through the leaves and other plant parts, which creates a negative gradient from the top of the plant down to the roots.

This is probably way more than you wanted to know, but having a horticulture degree, I just couldn't resist.

GASP! Does that make me one of the elites? If I am, why can't I afford better shoes?

5. Thanks for the lesson.

"This is probably way more than you wanted to know, but having a horticulture degree, I just couldn't resist."....

It's always good to be able to share our knowledge with each other.
I wrote the post late last night and perhaps I did not clarify myself. You are absolutely corect about the fact that iron and clay attract each other. Here is what I was attempting to represent in my analogy.

Iron represents the people of the USA, coming together with all of their differences, black, white, young, old, men, women, children, religion, etc.

Clay is to be representative of those same groups who have things in common, such as, a failing economy, a flawed government, extreme gas prices, etc.

I wanted to say that Carole to me would be representative of a piece of the clay in that she was able to overcome some of the differences in life and that I would think she would be a part of the agent that binds, which is the clay. The irony is that she did not appear to fit that categorey.

Thus, my subject was in reference to how I perceived that she views life....That she doesn't see us haveing the ability to overcome the differences. At the bottom of my post I wrote "that don't go together" and this statement again was to represent the pessimistic views that I believe she and some other people have, in regards to our ability to come together inspite of the differences.

Iron representing differences and clay representing likeness, and strengths which we all possess which becomes the binding agent.

Perhaps, I did a bad job with my analogy. And I am not attempting to bash Carole Simpson. It's just so disappointing to hear that kind of exchange. I am a black female and a mother. My first grandchild is expected to arrive in June 2008. What kind of message is this for our children? She speaks as one who has no hope.

Obama is not the first black person to run for president, but he is the first to make it this for. HClinton is not the first woman to run for president, but she is the first to make it this for. The others were the building blocks on which both Obama and HClinton stand today. Carole Simpson may not have accomplished all of the things she wanted in life, but because of her efforts and so many others, they have become the building blocks, on which we stand today.

Carole Simpson comes from the same "old school" as Rev. Wright. One loud and over bearing, the other soft spoken. Their message is the same. After listening to Carole Simpson last night, I guess we could say Hillary Clinton, to some extent has her own "Rev.Wright" I understand that both of them have weathered many storms and overcome so many obstacles. As a black person I applaud their efforts and their successes. It's becasue of them that a man named Barack Obama has come this far in a presidential election.

I guess I just wish their outlooks and their message regarding the possibilities in life were more positive than what they have portrayed.

Thanks for the exchange.

4. If you ever talk about how she perceives she was treated you will understand that she
is an extremely bitter person. She rose to a very high level, on that matched her intelligence and work discipline and was bitter because she couldn't go to the very top although she never really showed the skills that would take her to the very top.
