So There's This Guy, McCain ...
Edited on Sat May-10-08 10:57 PM by NanceGreggs
As the Primary War rages on in the land of Democratica, the Republican nominee, John McCain, continues to speak his message into the wrong end of microphones across the nation, unabated and unchallenged.

This state of affairs does not bode well for our party’s chances to capture the White House, along with an increased majority in the House and the Senate. Let’s not forget that the odds of McCain becoming our next president cannot possibly be over-estimated, given the advantages he enjoyed entering into the general election cycle ahead of his Democratic opponent, Barack Obama whoever that may be.

From the word go, (or, more appropriately, the phrase ya’ll mosey along now), McCain came into the race having inherited the remainder of George W. Bush’s hardcore constituency, an estimated nineteen people who will spare no effort in ensuring that his chances of winning in November will consistently fluctuate between slim and none.

One need only look at Johnny-Come-Way-Too-Lately’s proud record to understand his underwhelming appeal among the masses.

Here’s a man who is ready from Day Three-Thousand Two-Hundred and Twenty-Six to assume the responsibilities of his former Commander-in-Chief, at-the-ready to unfurl the Mission REALLY Accomplished banner a hundred years after his own demise.

The fact that he’s not afraid to sacrifice our entire military and every last civilian in Iraq in order to achieve this goal is proof that he can easily surpass his predecessor not only in mindless rhetoric, but the stay-the-course logic that has made this war so popular among the thousands of Americans still supporting it.

Voters will no doubt be drawn to the family values of a man who unceremoniously dumped his first wife after she became disabled, in order to marry a much younger woman with a pile of dough ready smile, living proof that the American Dream is still attainable for those willing to work hard, overcome all obstacles, and marry an heiress.

No doubt McCain’s biggest asset is his don’t hold me back, let me at ‘em scrappiness, a man willing to fight for the American citizenry with the same the-gloves-are-off mentality that led him to embrace one G.W. Bush - after his operatives spread the rumor that McCain’s adopted daughter was a half-black love-child born of an illicit affair - a moment caught in a now-legendary photo-op known as The Hug Heard Around the World.

One would be foolish to discount, in the midst of presently-looming economic catastrophe, McCain’s candor and honesty in saying he “doesn’t know much about that stuff”, or to nay-say his ability to handle the aftermath of a natural disaster – because, let’s face it, what are the odds of another Katrina type disaster having to be shoved to one side because it interferes with his birthday celebrations?

McCain’s platform presents a particular challenge to those who would just as well not participate in the much-touted 21st Century. His recent speeches about Czechoslovakia are but a prelude to his can’t miss backward-looking agenda, which includes final approval of the Louisiana Purchase, statehood for the territories of Utah and Wyoming, and official recognition of the horseless carriage as the unlikely-but-possible mode of transportation of the future.

Make no mistake. While we Democrats are rendered helpless by infighting, the McCain campaign is firing-up the mimeograph machine, oiling and polishing their state-of-the-art telegraph apparatus, hiring additional staff to rotor-router the internetz tubes when they’re clogged, and will no doubt have the difference between Sunni and Shia down pat before Obama one of our own is declared the official nominee of our party.

Time’s a-wastin’, my fellow Democrats. This guy McCain is nipping at our heels – and if we drag out this primary process a minute longer, he could lose the presidency long before we even have a chance to enter the race.

Once Hillary drops out, before the convention, and Obama begins to go after McCain, I really have no doubt in my mind that we will capture this election in a landslide. In the primaries we've seen nearly double Democratic registrations, and old Republican stronghold states are becoming swing states, that with the correct campaigning, could go to Obama. Especially with the economy getting worse and the war dragging on, once the public begins to see that McCain = Bush for 4 more years, they will gravitate towards Obama. I would even go so far as to suggest that the House will pick up a good 15 Democratic seats and 5 Senate seats. History has shown that when the American people are unhappy, they go Democratic, and in large numbers. I've heard speculation that this may be the best year since FDR was first elected.

Also, McCain is weak. When he was the nominee, remember the big divide among the Republicans? Heck, look at North Carolina and Pennsylvania just recently. Huckabee and Paul managed to take away 22% of the vote from the guy who is already the presumptive nominee! To some he is too conservative, but to many he is not conservative enough. Even though he may be appealing to some Independents, admit it: those Independents that he would appeal to are probably the ones who were going to vote to the right anyway.

However, once again a good read and another nice opinion!

One of my college profs made us use the text he was writing. He gave it to use via poor quality mimeograph sheets. After about 10 copies they become unreadable.

brand new Escalade with a McCain sticker affixed to the bumper. Don't underestimate McSame or overestimate the American voter. I was convinced Gore would be a shoe in back in 2000. After all, Bush was an idiot and only a moron would vote for him. Turns out there are a hell of a lot of morons. McSame is going to be touted as a "maverick" and "war hero" by the whore media, which will do everything in its power to build him up. This election is going to be close.

prosperity under Clinton, which was a pretty good reason to vote for Gore. But the media determined he was stiff and a liar, and hammered it home while giving the chimp a free ride - making it close enough to steal. Expect the same this time around. By all rights, people should be sick and tired of how bad the repukes have screwed things up, but if they are repeatedly told that McSame is an independent guy with a boatload of foreign policy experience and that Obama (assuming he's our nom) is a far left closet Muslim who doesn't love America, people may start to believe it - or at least have serious doubts.

The Repubs control the voting machines and most of the M$M. Obama will have to work ten times as hard as hard as McCain would to achieve the same result. I'm not saying he can't do it, but complacency is a dangerous thing. Remember the story of the Hare and the Tortoise?

24. The question now being
whether those who supported Clinton or Edwards or Kucinich in the primaries have learned that lesson. Will they base their votes in November on their "conscience" or on the fact that an Obama supporter hurt their feelings six months ago, or will they put their personal feelings aside, remember that the election is not about them, and do what's best for the country and the world?

If the latter, we can stick a fork in McCain right now. If the former...well, be prepared for 8 more years of the same.

31. I hear you, but.......I was destroyed in 2004. I used the same argument about living with the
consequences of war, torture, loss of habeas corpus and half the Constitution. But a little swift boating and millions of voters begged Bush to continue.

Fight like there is no tomorrow, because there isn't.

Don't underestimate how easily the gullibles are swayed.

If I was Karl Rove, I would work to instigate race riots. With the high levels of poverty, and bitterness toward the government, I don't think it would be hard. Another Watts and the government could round up "trouble makers/terrorists" and detain them indefinitely per the Patriot Act.

So why are all the Obama supporters panties bunched up?

21. I await, with glee, the first "debate"...
(or should I say Cotton Candy Melee), between the D nominee and McCain. w/o even asking McCain much more than, "What's your favorite color", he'll fall flat on his face and show not just Americans, but the rest of the world he is comparable in intellect as the same goomer who occupies the Oval Office presently.

I've listened to McCain, and so far, he has said nothing, essentially because he has nothing. He's a dud, and now that he's going to be on half the stage, his free ride is over, thank God.

We'll hear about how he was a great "hero", but unlike Max Cleland, Bob Kerry and John Kerrey, he has nothing but languishing as a POW to show for it. This is not to say that being a POW is a piece of cake by any means...but I think Max Cleland would rather have been a POW than going for that grenade that took 3 limbs. As a Vet, I appreciate McCain's service, as should all Americans; but I draw the line when it comes to calling him a "hero". Far too many of my fellow vets lie in Military Cemeteries, many of them from this war...they are heroes.

Since McCain returned home, he has shown himself to be little more than a cheap opportunist. He wanted to be an Admiral like his father and Grandfather...the Navy thought that was a bad idea. Shows me that the Navy does some things right, and all of the pull that came w/the McCain name could not get him to Flag Rank...GO NAVY!

Which brings me to his political life and a short biography. McCain was taken under the wing of Barry Goldwater, something Goldwater came to regret. Barry was a die hard old line conservative. There is little he and I would see eye to eye on, but he was true to his convictions, and he raised hell about taking the nation into debt. Before he died, he made the incredible statement during an interview, that the crop of R's that had been spawned weren't "Republicans at all, they are shitheads". Say what you will about Goldwater, he didn't mince words. Barry came to a serious dislike of McCain, well deserved I would expect. He saw an opportunist that would sell his mother and then his soul to get another inch up the ladder. I wish Goldwater were still around to see what McCain has become...he'd be out there calling it like it is, and I'm sure McCain would have been pretty close to the top of Barry's "shithead" list.

"Family values"...gimme a break...the guy is actually a whore...he sold out his family for money.

"Intellect"...just a point or two above bush. When the wind blows just right and hits McCain's ears...deer run away for miles around and dogs howl.

"Ideology"...you have to have ideas to have an ideology, (see "intellect").

When the vast majority of us come together for this election, and one adds Independents and R's w/sense, (yes, there are some out there), McCain will most likely go down in one of the greatest blow-outs in history. But we have to vote to keep him out of the WH, there will be no rest, no sitting it out "confident that others" will make this happen.

When we have the WH, great #'s in both Houses of congress and the opportunity to scale back the conservative USSC w/good appointments, we can get this country back to where it should be heading.

In case anyone forgot...a nation that is by the people, of the people and for the people; a nation that can hold it's head up high in the world arena; a nation that has, and will continue to, produce some of the finest minds and take on any problem with intelligence, justice and dignity. We are that people...try as it would, the bush cabal could not destroy this nation...we are a good people, and we are still the light of freedom, even if it has dimmed under bush...we'll rekindle that light.
