8-02-04 -10:40 A M- CNN IS STILL PIMPING THEIR FLAWED POLL
No mention of the fact that are there are now four or five post convention polls which contradict their flawed poll....

This bullshit can't stand....

2. They were spooked by it
Over the weekend, because it is so out of line with other polls.
So they went back and did more interviews to try to bolster it. The problem is that they insist on using the "likely voters" numbers.

3. This annoys me
I don't necessarily think that it is due to bias, but it just has to do with how the media treats polls as fact. These polls have a margin of error which is rarely mentioned. I hate when someone like Bill Schneider will say that a candidate gained a point or two based on one poll. That just can't be determined from one poll. Also, because of all the competition, CNN won't mention other polls because they don't want to admit they might be wrong. It really is pretty sad especially since I thought this poll came out on Saturday or Sunday and Schneider was even saying that no poll can be trusted until at least Monday.

4. The margin of error
On the poll when it was first announced was 4 percent. That's high. After they went back and added more interviews, I'm sure it probably lowered the margin of error, but I haven't checked that.

5. The Whole "Covention Bounce" theory is flawed since it wasn't TELEVISED
In the past, conventions were televised so they had much more of an influence on voters and produced the "bounce".. but this one was a virtual blackout because it was barely broadcast on the major networks.

Thank gawd for C-span!

9. It was probably:
Edited on Mon Aug-02-04 11:42 AM by mdguss
It was probably a poll of their viewers.

The ratings came out, and there was some good news, of the four networks that had evening coverage of the conventions, PBS WON, with 2.9 million households, Fox was second with 2.1 million households, CNN was third with 1.6 million households, and MSNBC was improving dramatically to 1.3 million households (vs. 600,000 for the conventions in 2000). Network ratings for their summer shit like "Fear Factor," and "Wife swap" declined relative to the convention.

So CNN's gamble lost, it seems like they lost many viewers to PBS and MSNBC (both of which provided good, non-biased coverage of the convention).

11. And around 27 million households:
Or 50 million people watched Kerry's speech.
