I predict that Dick Durbin of Illinois will play a very very important role in a Obama
Edited on Sat May-10-08 11:12 PM by IsItJustMe
administration.

Book mark this because you heard it from me first. Dick has already played an important, behind the sceene, role in the Obama campaign. You never hear about Dick in any of the posts here at DU.

And the great thing about this is: Dick Durbin is one hell of a liberal.

4. Are you talking about this?
Some veteran politicians also see "something that's leading" Obama, whether they can explain it or not.

Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., a longtime friend and supporter, said "nothing was ever the same" after Obama's Boston speech.

Durbin recalls pulling Obama into a vacant meeting room in Chicago's Union League Club, where both had spoken on a Friday afternoon in November 2006. He felt it was time for his young colleague to decide whether to run for the White House.

"There are moments in life when you can pick the time," Durbin said he told Obama. "But when it comes to running for president, the time can pick you. You've been picked. This is your moment."

A short time later, Obama launched his candidacy.

5. IMO Durbin will remain where he is, which will be very good for Obama
Having an ally like Durbin as the party's whip, or perhaps leader if Reid steps down, will help President Obama get his legislation passed.

6. Durbin and Emanuel picked him to run for Senator and
then President. All Progressive candidates in our state were ignored. All anti-war get out of Iraq candidates ignored.

17. Obama beat the machine-picked candidates in the Senate primary
And didn't he run as an anti-war candidate?

20. Obama did and he didn't.
Edited on Sun May-11-08 08:32 AM by mac2
He kept switching the words...like getting out if Iraq but being a "policing" force.

The conservative newspaper the Chicago Tribune supported him all the way. He met with them to "spin" the Rev. Wright thing. If he was Progressive they would not have done that. He is a "New Democrat" from what I can tell. He believes in globalism and the bad trade deals we have today. There is no push to get out of them. Forget changing or negotiating them. They win, we lose. He also wants more money for Faith Based Charity to religious groups.

I don't approve of any of this as a Progressive Democrat. The country cries out for progressive change but we get the same ole oligarchy in DC.

I'd like to be wrong since years more of war, loss of rights...borders, and spending is a disaster for our democracy.

24. What?
In the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope. - Barack Obama

Nope can't pin anything down about hope since it has no plan or solution. I want more than that for our country. You don't have a plan or vision then you don't get the job in my eyes. I'm an action speaks louder than words person.

9. Illinois would need to replace two of the best U.S. Senators!
I helped campaign for Dick Durbin back when he was a Congressman. He's everything good!

19. They won't pick two Senators from the same state as
the Republicans. Being a leader in the Senate won't mean replacing Durbin.

18. I want all our Congress to let the people decide on who
wins the primary. I like Jan Schakowsky but was angry at her for demanding Hillary step down now. What is her hurry? The convention is a threat to them and they want Obama regardless of the democratic process? Nope I don't approve since it could set a dangerous stage for other primary races not going to the vote and voice of the party members. The leaders of the party decide in back rooms, etc.

I want a party of workers not be a party of one mind united with Republicans in purpose. Each party has policy and agenda I don't like. Is that on purpose so in the end it is forced on us?

25. kick for Dick!
He's my pick for #1 Most Underrated Democrat. Great, good-hearted, tough, smart progressive man.

I've often wished he'd run for President, but dammit, I think his humility is too sincere.
