SCAM ALERT: Heard On Radio This Morning!!

Folks, I do not know how true this is, but I heard it on my radio news this morning, and thought it best to pass this on...

Seems some CRIMINALS have taken note of the tremendous grassroots fundraising efforts we Democrats have been making, and have been sending out false emails, claiming to be from the Kerry Campaign, and other places, seeking to raise funds for John Kerry, and other organizations intent on removing Bush from the White House.

Seems the TRUE INTENT of these emails is to steal money and credit card info!

Now, before anyone accuses me of being a Freeper, let me say...I SUPPORT REMOVING BUSH FROM THE WHITE HOUSE, AND I SAY GIVE TILL IT HURTS!! But protect yourself!! MAKE SURE that you do not resond DIRECTLY to any of these emails or click the links in these emails...instead, open a new browser window, and go DIRECTLY to the websites of TRUSTED ORGANIZATIONS...and make your donations that way!

This way, you protect yourself from being scammed in three ways...
Scam #1 You lose the money you meant to donate to our cause
Scam #2 The money DOES NOT GO TO OUR CAUSE...it goes to some asshole criminal!
Scam #3 The criminals get access to your credit card info and thus, you could lose a lot MORE money, and possibly even become a victim of identity theft!!

I, like the rest of y'all here...am excited and eager, panting at the chance to get Bush out of the White House...BUT DON'T LET YOUR EAGERNESS TO ACCOMPLISH THIS GOAL OPEN YOU UP TO BE DEFRAUDED AND VICTIMIZED!!

Be advised, per Federal LAW...The Kerry Campaign can no longer directly recieve, or solicit ANY campaign contributions!! NONE. ZERO. ZIP. NADA!! So if you get an email purporting to be from the Kerry Campaign, and it solicits donations...IT IS FRAUDULENT!!

Do NOT respond to it!!
DO, however, forward the email on to the FBI. It is their job to handle computer fraud. Also, pass the email on to your state's Attorney General, as well as the Kerry Campaign...and the Democratic Party! We must find and bring down the scum that would perpetrate such rotten lousy acts as this!!

And if anyone HAS gotten any of these emails, tell us about it HERE!!
We can only fight this battle if we protect each other, and keep each other informed!! And DO...donate what you can DIRECTLY to the Democratic National Committee...or DIRECTLY to known, trustworthy allies of us, such as MoveOn.org, The Sierra Club, etc....BUT YOU INITIATE THE DONATION...AND DO IT FROM THEIR TRUSTED WEBSITE...NOT DIRECTLY FROM AN EMAIL SOLICITATION WITH LINKS!!

Again, I am not sure of the validity of this, just heard it on my radio news...so I'm posting it HERE, rather than in Latest Breaking News...but, please...protect yourself...and MAKE SURE those hard-earned dollars you want to donate IN FACT GO TO THE CAUSES WE ALL CARE ABOUT...and NOT into the pockets of criminals!

There was a link to an article about this yesterday that stated it had been determined that some pro-Kerry people have indeed been taken in by these scam emails and lost money. At least some of the scam activity has been traced back to India.

I have not received any of these fake emails purporting to be from the Kerry campaign but I have received emails purporting to be from Ebay asking for my password and identity info. I read them carefully, figured they were fake and did not get scammed but Keith Olbermann of MSNBC mentioned getting scammed by a fake email or popup window that he thought was from his bank.

We sent out e-mails alerting everyone on our lists.

Let us be ABSOLUTELY SURE our money goes to the cause we all so ardently support...get Bush the fuck out of the White House...and not to criminal asswipes!

Forward suspicious emails like this to the FBI, your state's Attorney General, and the Kerry Campaign and the DNC. We must find, stop, and prosecute, to the fullest extent of the law...people who would seek to take advantage of our eagerness to ride Bush out on a rail!!

Continue to give to the causes we all support and believe in...BUT DO IT ONLY THRU TRUSTED WEB SITES, THAT YOU NAVIGATE TO ON YOUR OWN...NOT FROM LINKS IN THE EMAILS!!

I think this important enough to get a kick to the top of the list again!
