Oregon 2nd Congressional District
Edited on Mon May-12-08 11:49 PM by davidpdx
I received an email today from someone who said that voter registration in this very Republican district has shifted. According to a super delegate they talked to,it has gone from 7% Republican to 2% Democrat. This could mean very good news in terms of getting rid of Senator Gordon Smith. The sad part is I doubt it will help get rid of Representative Greg Walden, who is one of Bush's biggest "yes men" in Congress.

If we were able to get rid of Gordo and hold the 5th Congressional seat, that would give Oregon a 6-1 Democrat/Republican ratio in Congress (now it's 5-2).

2. I would have to see the email.
I've been in Oregon for almost 25 years. District 2 has always been more socially conservative and Republican. Though Bend has grown and some of the southwest is pretty liberal, I would be surprised if they have made that much of a statistical change. I'll try and research tomorrow.

3. The person didn't give direct proof
Edited on Tue May-13-08 12:17 AM by davidpdx
but here is part of the email minus the last sentence:

"An old friend of mine who happens to be Oregon's DNC committeeman (i.e. a Super delegate) told me last week that OR's 2nd CD (Walden's seat) has dramatically been affected by the recent jump in voter registrations (or switching parties). By the numbers, it was a 7 points Republican lead in voter reg; now it's 2 points Democratic lead."

If you are able to find out anything directly, please post it.

4. Walden is the original pencil-necked geek of Rush fame...
Maybe the Repugs are switching just for the primary. 02 is a really strange mix of different kinds of people. From liberal Ashland to moderate Medford and hard right in Klamath Falls/Lakeview and all the tiny towns in between.

Even here in Klamath, the hardline Repugs are really unhappy with the Bush problems. Dunno if we could dump Smith, but do wish we could unload Walden.
