Bush's talking points beat Kerry's in Iowa today.
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 05:29 PM by gulliver
Bush's line was that we can't "show weakness" in the war on terror, and it "won't happen on his watch." Thunderous applause. As usual, Bush is a weak man with a strong line in front of an audience of enthusiastic supporters. He is clearly the bravest former college cheerleader ever to yell at an opponent from the safety of the sidelines.

On the other hand, Kerry was a strong man with a weak line today. He replayed the "pessimism" line that someone evidently told him is effective. "There is nothing more pessimistic than saying America can't do better," said Kerry. How lame!! Who does he think he is talking to? Rather, who do Kerry's people think they are talking to?

Hardly anyone will know that Kerry's line is a snappy rejoinder to Bush's attacks on Kerry as pessimistic. Who exactly is the audience for this lame line? And why is Kerry using a defensive line in the first place? This optimistic/pessimistic stuff is Bush's tune, and we are playing it.

Kerry should ask "What did America do before we had the great George W. Bush Junior as president? How did America survive? What exactly makes Bush think he's literally God's gift to the war on terrorism -- ALL EVIDENCE TO THE CONTRARY?"

The strong man appears weak. The weak man appears strong. It is galling.

4. Kerry was having an economic summit with small business owners.
Bush was having a regular campaign rally.

6. We're Turning The Corner, And We're Not Looking Back?
What about that Bush stump line? That's pretty weak to me. Talk about looking a LONG way back, that's straight from Herbert Hoover, and there even a song from that time making fun about it:

Prosperity is Just Around Which Corner?
from 1932

Everywhere you go, everyone you meet,
All they talk about is this depression.
They blame it on the war, they blame it on Wall Street,
On politics and this administration.
For two years now we've been assured good times are on the way,
I wonder how much longer we must hear them talk this way?

Prosperity is just around the corner!
(What we'd like to know is which corner?
We've turned so many corners now we're dizzy.)
But still I'm positive we'll soon be busy!

Now, If we could just get the Squirrel Nut Zippers to re-record it, it would be perfect.

7. Kerry was not at a rally, Bush* was
I thought Kerry did a very good job explaining the need for change in our economic policy to the small business respresentatives. To compare him to shrub today is comparing oranges and apples. He kicked butt at his campaign stop in Grand Rapids---20k people, cheering and hollering. Made shrub*s rally today look weak.
