3. No.
I really think Obama needs someone with foreign policy credentials to counter McCain in that area. I keep thinking someone like Gen. Wes Clark.

10. I might have missed something but why do we think just because
someone was in the military that they have foreign policy credentials..

13. Who are you talking about?

If you are asking about Gen. Wes Clark, his role with NATO had a major diplomatic element to it, not just military.

If you are asking about McCain, I think it is more 'perception'. His experience on the Armed Services Committee helps.

Lets face it, wearing a uniform gives a candidate a level of respect and stature, whether the specific individual deserves it or not. Taking that perception head on will be important in the GE.

15. i can hear eisenhower whispering about the military-industrial complex...
part of the reason obama and kaine appeal to me is the fact they seem beholden to so few people.

5. He's been a great governor
but I agree with someone else here that foreign policy experience is needed. I was thinking Bill Richardson.

9. Would having a Veep with more foreign policy "heft" do anything to counter...
the mccain argument that obama himself doesnt have enough? I figure obama can lean on his sec of state and defense for that (powell, hagel, anyone of these generals who outright said this war being planned as is is just bad).

8. I'll take it!
I can't help it, I just like Kaine. I've heard the arguments for others (particularly Webb), but I just can't shake the feeling that it's going to be Kaine.

Virginia really offers some great picks. I think it all depends on whether Obama wants to address his perceived weaknesses (national security, blue collar folks) or attack McCain's weaknesses (social conservatives).

Webb offers a lot in the national security and "guy's guy" realm, whereas Kaine has the whole social conservative thing going on, which could work with Obama's call for inclusion.

Even though I disagree with Kaine on a lot of the issues, I've got to say that I like his manner and the way he has handled being an Obama surrogate.

12. It really sound like a pain killier..ha,ha....
He might be fine, but I'd rather Barack go west of the Mississippi... Richardson, Clark, or Schweitzer. Schweitzer was getting boosted on Big Ed's show today again.
