I turned the TV off when he said that, so if he said something after that, I missed it.

58. That's silly, but what Ferraro said is true.
He wouldn't be where he is today if he weren't black. He's actually only half black, but he'd prefer we forget about that minor detail. Remember the embarrassment he referred to as his "white grandmother?" But the 90+% of the black vote that he's getting has made the difference for him in this primary season. Obama supporters deny this even though it's as certain as sunrise. Not only is Obama getting more than 90% of the vote, but the number of blacks voting in this primary has risen dramatically compared to past primaries. Now, we can pretend that it has nothing to do with the color of Obama's skin, but don't you think we've seen enough pretending from Bush and his supporters? Let's deal with the truth, please. Beyond that, he's a rather typical politician telling us what we want to hear in order to further his personal ambitions. If he was white, Hillary would be the nominee. I wouldn't be so thrilled about that either.

60. In reality, AA began voting for Barack in large numbers because of the Clinton's rasist remarks.
I have met Barack and he has never made light of his white or black heritage. He speaks very loving of his grandparents and the sacrifices they made for him. They loved him and probably spoiled him as only grandparents can. He is very comfortable with older white's because he probably identifies them with those that raised him. He feels very comfortable with AA supporters because they are who he identifies with due to his skin color and life experiences. Children of mixed heritages are much more accepting of those different than them than evidently you are. They live caught between two worlds and have to come to an understanding of their own of who they are. As far as his "embarrassment" over his grandmother, it was not of her but of a racist statement she said. Anyway, children are embarrassed regularly by their parents and grandparents, and they are not all saying racist things. I was embarrassed by mine and my children are embarrassed by theirs. It is a part of life.

69. When I hear someone saying that they've met someone...
then proceed to explain how they know that person's inner-most thoughts and feelings, it reminds me of when Bush claims to have looked into Putin's eyes and saw his soul. We often see what we want to see in people, but that doesn't make it true. I heard what Obama, himself, said about his white grandmother. Frankly, it bothers me that he even refers to her as his "white" grandmother. Why isn't she just his grandmother? But he equated her anxiety she sometimes felt when walking alone on the street and a black male approaches her to Rev. Wright's rants in his church. He denounced Rev. Wright, so should I extrapolate and conclude that he denounces his grandmother as well? I've always worked very hard at being a free thinker and remaining objective in my observations, but the downside to that is that you end up expressing yourself in ways that tend to get a lot of people upset. People just don't like reality very much. It tends to be messy and uncomfortable.

82. I have a degree that includes the study of identity formation.
I also raised multi-racial children and have personal experince in their identity formation. I did not form my opinion by looking into his eyes, and I never saw his soul. I formed it by my own knowledge and by talking with him. As for him calling her his "white grandmother", he is only leting others know that she does not look like him. Do not judge others so harshly, some of us are very comfortable talking about our family members who are different from us. My children are identified as Latinos, their one family is white and their other is Dominican. So they have a white mother, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins; and they also have a Dominican father, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. They sometimes clarify them as such when they talk to others. It is just the way it is. He did not equate his grandmother with Wright, I heard the speech. He was saying that although she had felt this, and said some things that may have bothered him, he still loved her and accepted her. He was trying to explain that many people have prejudices and sometimes we just have to look over them and go on with our lives and our relationships with these people. I cannot even begin to say all the things my children have had to ignore to maintain family relationships.

I mean, Bubba Clinton came out of nowhere to win due to his charisma and our need for a change. He was white.

JFK came in with his rhetorical abilities and good looks and also won in a time when people wanted hope and possibility.

Don't you diminish the greatness of Obama's qualities by saying "oh because he's black".

That is buying into the stupid canard people use all the time.

If Clinton wasn't wife of Bill....she wouldn't have made it past NH. Suck on it.

http://www.education-reform.net/storm.htm

As snow steadily buries everything familiar, terror arrives in the form of an evil stranger. As the streets disappear and an eerie darkness envelops the town, a series of bizarre murders creates a nightmare of fear. With no help coming from the outside world and no end to the storm in sight, the townspeople are forced to take drastic action before it's too late.

The evil stranger arrives in town, kills an old woman with his cane and allows himself to be taken into custody -- and knows everyone by name -- and knows their secrets, which he lets spill in front of everyone else.

Always has been, but now that he's faced with a black candidate who seems to be headed for the Presidency, Buchanan is totally off the fuckin' reservation.

One of the most enjoyable moments in last week's political coverage was watching "Morning Joe" when Peggy Noonan, of all people, took Buchanan, her former boss, to the woodshed on live television. It was awesome.

It is far past the time when someone should put a leash on this guy and drag him off the air before he says something truly, awfully horrific. That moment is coming, my friends. He can't hold it in much longer.

Along with nearly 40% of white NC Democrats.

It is comments like Buchanan's (among many others) that reminds me, forcefully, that as far as we have come in my lifetime in terms of race relations, we still have a generation that needs to die before we can really shake this shit off our shoes.

Goodbye and no tears shed, Mr. Buchanan!

It's amazing what floats to the surface when you stir up the pot. People who harbor latent racism generally expose themselves when given an opening to do so.

Those were some strong arguments from Pat, but nothing that solicits termination.

55. Strong Arguments?
Does the KKK have a 'strong argument'? Today in history...something we can all look back on fondly....

May 14, 1961 - As the civil rights movement grew in the southern United States, racists attacked a “Freedom Ride” bus near Anniston, Alabama. The white mob shot out the tires and threw smoke bombs into the vehicle. The trapped occupants were attacked with sticks and many people were injured by flying glass. Doctors at the local hospital refused to treat the wounded.

Would you change the channel if you saw that?

59. In strictly terms of firing the guy
wouldn't that be lowering the bar big time for losing your job.

I watch MSNBC often and I think Pat adds some zest to their coverage.

Perfect example, right after that atrocious ABC debate, it was Pat who first pointed out on Olbermann's show that Hillary intended to increase America's protectionist role in the Middle East. So definitely on foreign policy, Buchanan makes alot of sense.

To make him out to be Michael Richards from today's segment is unfair, imo.

65. But it isn't just from today, here's a very abridged set of quotes from his very own lips
Edited on Wed May-14-08 10:22 PM by frickaline
He should never EVER have been hired to begin with.

On Race:
On race relations in the late 1940s and early 1950s: "There were no politics to polarize us then, to magnify every slight. The 'negroes' of Washington had their public schools, restaurants, bars, movie houses, playgrounds and churches; and we had ours." (Right from the Beginning, Buchanan's 1988 autobiography, p. 131)

White House advisor Buchanan urged President Nixon in an April 1969 memo not to visit "the Widow King" on the first anniversary of Martin Luther King's assassination, warning that a visit would "outrage many, many people who believe Dr. King was a fraud and a demagogue and perhaps worse.... Others consider him the Devil incarnate. Dr. King is one of the most divisive men in contemporary history." (New York Daily News, 10/1/90)

In a column sympathetic to ex-Klansman David Duke, Buchanan chided the Republican Party for overreacting to Duke and his Nazi "costume": "Take a hard look at Duke's portfolio of winning issues and expropriate those not in conflict with GOP principles, reverse discrimination against white folks." (syndicated column, 2/25/89)

In a September 1993 speech to the Christian Coalition, Buchanan described multiculturalism as "an across-the-board assault on our Anglo-American heritage."

On Jews:
In a 1977 column, Buchanan said that despite Hitler's anti-Semitic and genocidal tendencies, he was "an individual of great courage...Hitler's success was not based on his extraordinary gifts alone. His genius was an intuitive sense of the mushiness, the character flaws, the weakness masquerading as morality that was in the hearts of the statesmen who stood in his path." (The Guardian, 1/14/92)

Writing of "group fantasies of martyrdom," Buchanan challenged the historical record that thousands of Jews were gassed to death by diesel exhaust at Treblinka: "Diesel engines do not emit enough carbon monoxide to kill anybody." (New Republic, 10/22/90) Buchanan's columns have run in the Liberty Lobby's Spotlight, the German-American National PAC newsletter and other publications that claim Nazi death camps are a Zionist concoction.

Buchanan called for closing the U.S. Justice Department's Office of Special Investigations, which prosecuted Nazi war criminals, because it was "running down 70-year-old camp guards." (New York Times, 4/21/87)

Buchanan was vehement in pushing President Reagan -- despite protests -- to visit Germany's Bitburg cemetery, where Nazi SS troops were buried. At a White House meeting, Buchanan reportedly reminded Jewish leaders that they were "Americans first" -- and repeatedly scrawled the phrase "Succumbing to the pressure of the Jews" in his notebook. Buchanan was credited with crafting Ronald Reagan's line that the SS troops buried at Bitburg were "victims just as surely as the victims in the concentration camps." (New York Times, 5/16/85; New Republic, 1/22/96)

On Women:
"Rail as they will about 'discrimination,' women are simply not endowed by nature with the same measures of single-minded ambition and the will to succeed in the fiercely competitive world of Western capitalism." (syndicated column, 11/22/83)

"The real liberators of American women were not the feminist noise-makers, they were the automobile, the supermarket, the shopping center, the dishwasher, the washer-dryer, the freezer." (Right from the Beginning, p. 149)

"If a woman has come to believe that divorce is the answer to every difficult marriage, that career comes before children ... no democratic government can impose another set of values upon her." (Right from the Beginning, p. 341)

...and I can't even bring myself to post the ones on homosexuality. There's a bunch more here, read in horror:

72. I won't question the validity of those quotes
However, one of the following must be true:

NBC, General Electric, Countdown, Hardball all countenance these aforementioned sentiments by giving Buchanan passageway on their network.

Pencils have erasers, to borrow a phrase from The Simpsons.

(It'll be interesting to see how this plays out nonetheless.)

62. Do you agree that Julius Streicher...
had the "right" to do what he did?

The propaganda which Streicher carried out throughout those years was chiefly done through the medium of his newspapers. He was the editor and publisher of "Der Stuermer' from 1922 until 1933, and thereafter the publisher and owner of the paper. In 1933 he also founded and thereafter published a daily newspaper called the "Fraenkische Tageszeitung."

In addition, in later years he published several other papers, mostly local journals, from Nurnberg.
B. STREICHER'S PART IN THE REMOVAL OF OPPOSITION THROUGH ANTI-JEWISH PROPAGANDA AND INCITEMENT.

The course of Streicher's incitement and propaganda may be traced more or less in chronological order by referring to short extracts from "Der Stuermer." The extracts which follow were selected at random. They were selected with a view to showing the various methods which Streicher employed to incite the German people against the Jewish race, but his newspapers are crowded with them, week after week, day after day. It is impossible to pick up any copy without finding the same kind of invective and incitement in the headlines and in the articles.

http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Holocaust/Streicher.html
D. CONCLUSION.

It may be that Streicher is less directly involved in the physical commission of the crimes against Jews than some of his coconspirators. The submission of the Prosecution is that his crime is no less worse for that reason. No government in the world, before the Nazis came to power, could have embarked upon and it; into effect a policy of mass Jewish extermination in the way in which they did, without having a people who would back them and support them, and without having a large number of people who were prepared to carry out the murder themselves. (See Chapter XII on Persecution of the Jews.)

It was to the task of educating and poisoning the people with hate, and of producing murderers, that Streicher set himself. For 25 years he continued unrelentingly the perversion of the people and youth of Germany. He went on and on, as he saw the results of his work bearing fruit.

In the early days he was preaching persecution. As persecution took place he preached extermination and annihilation and, as millions of Jews were exterminated and annihilated, in the Ghettos of the East, he cried out for more and more.

The crime of Streicher is that he made these crimes possible, which they would never have been had it not been for him and for those like him. Without Streicher and his propaganda, the Kaltenbrunners, the Himmlers, the General Stroops would have had nobody to do their killing.

In its extent Streicher's crime is probably greater and more far-reaching than that of any of the other defendants. The misery which they caused ceased with their capture. The effects of this man's crime, of the poison that he has put into the minds of millions of young boys and girls goes on, for he concentrated upon the youth and childhood of Germany. He leaves behind him a legacy of almost a whole people poisoned with hate, sadism, and murder, and perverted by him. That people remain a problem and perhaps a menace to the rest of civilization for generations to come.

Streicher was sentenced to death by hanging at the Nuremberg Trial. On October 16, 1946, Streicher was executed.

it became a media whore once wrote a column there about ole Pat.

Seems Pat and his bully brothers regularly delighted in playing -- and bragging about -- awful (non-childish) pranks on their Black maid and equally regularly tormented the Jewish kids who walked past their house to the nearby Jewish academy.

Pat is a bastard whose racism runs deep and long!

88. No kidding!
I saw that this afternoon and wanted to crawl through the screen and strangle that racist fucktard.

Ive never been able to tolerate him, but I recently followed a link to these comments he made, and ever since then, my level of hatred for him has increased a hundred fold.

In his own words:

http://buchanan.org/blog/?p=969

How would he justify not walking out as Wright spewed his venom about “the U.S. of K.K.K. America,” and howled, “God damn America!”

My hunch was right. Barack would turn the tables.

Yes, Barack agreed, Wright’s statements were “controversial,” and “divisive,” and “racially charged,” reflecting a “distorted view of America.”

But we must understand the man in full and the black experience out of which the Rev. Wright came: 350 years of slavery and segregation.

Barack then listed black grievances and informed us what white America must do to close the racial divide and heal the country.

The “white community,” said Barack, must start “acknowledging that what ails the African-American community does not just exist in the minds of black people; that the legacy of discrimination — and current incidents of discrimination, while less overt than in the past — are real and must be addressed. Not just with words, but with deeds … .”

And what deeds must we perform to heal ourselves and our country?

The “white community” must invest more money in black schools and communities, enforce civil rights laws, ensure fairness in the criminal justice system and provide this generation of blacks with “ladders of opportunity” that were “unavailable” to Barack’s and the Rev. Wright’s generations.

What is wrong with Barack’s prognosis and Barack’s cure?

Only this. It is the same old con, the same old shakedown that black hustlers have been running since the Kerner Commission blamed the riots in Harlem, Watts, Newark, Detroit and a hundred other cities on, as Nixon put it, “everybody but the rioters themselves.”

What a fucking waste of oxygen.
