I don't fucking believe this.
Bush, addressing the Knesset just now, just compared Obama and the Democrats to Nazi appeasers.

May I quote Keith Olbermann???

SHUT THE HELL UP!

This is on CNN right now; I'm sure a link will be coming on their Web site. Obama has fired back.

10. Yep. It's all over CNN. No link as of yet on the Web site.
This is also being discussed over on LBN.

Obama's campaign is now calling it an "unprecedented attack on foreign soil of a political candidate." Also, it's "cowboy diplomacy" and is typical of how Bush conducts foreign policy - exploiting Israel's 60th birthday to make a self-aggrandizing political point.

Right on all counts. He not only smeared Obama, but all Democrats as well.

Obama spokesman on CNN now, basically ripping the administration a new asshole -- not that they are lacking any over there.

...it's not just up to Obama. WE are the rapid response team. WE have to do more than cheer him on. WE have to act...write letters to the editor, to CNN, MSNBC, C-Span, newspapers, etc.

What will you do to help Obama against 'swiftboating' today?

<snip>

"President Bush just made some interesting remarks about terrorism, going so far as to describe negotiating with terrorist groups as a "foolish delusion" akin to the appeasement that failed to stop Nazi Germany from invading its European neighbors.

Bush didn't explicitly criticize Sen. Barack Obama, but CNN says anonymous White House aides "are acknowledging" that the president was referring to the Democratic presidential hopeful, who has said he would be willing to meet with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad."

20. Bush is embarrassing to the USA when he visits the Middle East
I saw a youtube clip a while back from a press conference that Bush held in Israel the last time he visited Israel. He was asked about the checkpoints that slow down the daily lives of Palestinians. His response was that his motorcade didn't get stopped at all, so what's the problem? Unbelievable. I saw this on an english version of Al-Jazeera News on youtube. You could clearly see that they were very mad at his statement.

Gates: U.S. Should Engage Iran With Incentives, Pressure

The United States should construct a combination of incentives and pressure to engage Iran, and may have missed earlier opportunities to begin a useful dialogue with Tehran, Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates said yesterday.

"We need to figure out a way to develop some leverage . . . and then sit down and talk with them," Gates said. "If there is going to be a discussion, then they need something, too. We can't go to a discussion and be completely the demander, with them not feeling that they need anything from us."

In the meantime, Gates told a meeting of the Academy of American Diplomacy, a group of retired diplomats, "my personal view would be we ought to look for ways outside of government to open up the channels and get more of a flow of people back and forth." Noting that "a fair number" of Iranians regularly visit the United States, he said, "We ought to increase the flow the other way . . . of Americans" visiting Iran.

:sarcasm: :crazy:

My fear/concern is that his statement will gain a lot of traction with a lot of voters who will vote mainly out of fear...to the detriment of their own very valid self-interests, such as having a job, a place to live, and food to eat.

I'm glad that the Obama campaign is already on this in no uncertain terms. Bush must not be allowed to steer this election. He's already fucked up two of them and we don't need him fucking up a third.

Perhaps they don't like to bring that up.

Business Links with Fritz Thyssen

Harriman Bank was the main Wall Street partner for several German companies and the varied U.S. financial interests of Fritz Thyssen. Thyssen had been an early financial backer of the Nazi party, but by 1939 was bitterly denouncing Hitler and had fled Germany. He was later jailed by the Nazis for his opposition to the Nazi regime.

Business transactions with Germany were not illegal until Hitler declared war on the United States on December 11, 1941, but, six days after the attack on Pearl Harbor, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed the Trading With the Enemy Act after it had been made public that U.S. companies were doing business with the declared enemy of the United States. On October 20, 1942, the U.S. government ordered the seizure of German banking operations in New York City. Roosevelt's Alien Property Custodian, Leo T. Crowley, signed Vesting Order Number 248 seizing property under the Trading with the Enemy Act. The order cited only the Union Banking Corporation (UBC), of which Bush was a director and held only one share.

Fox News has reports on recently declassified material about this issue, according to a document signed by Homer Jones, chief of the division of investigation and research of the Office of Alien Property Custodian, a World War II-era agency. By 1941 Thyssen no longer had control over his business empire, which was in the hands of the Nazi government.

against Obama. Pretty much called him a hypocrite since Bush himself negotiated with another country (Libya?) to get them to stop their nuclear program even though they were behind the Pan Am 101 terrorist bombing.

Also just brought up the fact that Bush has negotiated with North Korea to get them to stop their nuclear activities. Funny how we have been more successful with North Korea than Iran.

The big question now will be whether or not John McCain jumps on with Bush on this one. I think he's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. If he doesn't, then his conservative base will lash out at him. If he does, he'll be forced to answer questions non-stop about linking Obama's foreign policy stance to dealing with Nazis.

38. Obama Communications Director: "...an unprecedented political attack on foreign soil."
Edited on Thu May-15-08 08:17 AM by Heidi
Bush suggests Obama wants 'appeasement' of terrorists
Posted: 08:48 AM ET
JERUSALEM (CNN) – In a particularly sharp blast from halfway around the world, President Bush suggested Thursday that Sen. Barack Obama and other Democrats are in favor of "appeasement" of terrorists in the same way U.S. leaders appeased Nazis in the run-up to World War II.

"Some seem to believe we should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along," said Bush, in what White House aides privately acknowledged was a reference to calls by Obama and other Democrats for the U.S. president to sit down for talks with leaders like Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

<snip>

“Obviously this is an unprecedented political attack on foreign soil,” Obama Communications Director Robert Gibbs told CNN’s John Roberts on American Morning Thursday, adding that Secretary of Defense Robert Gates had been quoted Wednesday making remarks about dialogue with Iran that were similar to the Illinois senator's.

<snip>

“It is unfortunate that an American president would fly halfway across the world and make a political attack instead of honoring the tremendous accomplishment and achievement of the 60th anniversary of the birth of Israel,” he added.

55. Administration officials said early on that Bush was making a reference to Obama.
And now, they've included Jimmy Carter, citing his meetings with Hamas.

Make no mistake: Bush may not know what the hell he is doing or saying, but his handlers most certainly do.

56. As others have said, seems DimSon is not too acquainted
with his own sordid family history.

Bush is so fucking irrelevant, good for Obama hitting back immediately on this.

57. The Neville Chamberlain comparison is overdone
And if Bush tried reading a book other than "My Pet Goat", he might actually know that Chamberlain's reputation has undergone something of a rehabilitation in recent years. A lot of historians now say that he bought valuable time by appeasing Hitler, and that had Britain gone to war in 1938, it would have been militarily underpowered and easily defeated.

63. This is 'swiftboating'...
Edited on Thu May-15-08 09:28 AM by YvonneCa
...by *. Have no doubt. And we (ALL DEMOCRATS) need to support Obama on this...immediately.

Write letters to the editor to newspapers, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, C-Span, PBS, etc. This is 'swiftboating.' EVERYTHING he (*) does is political. He wanted Repubs to run against Hillary...now he knows it's Obama.

Obama needs the support of ALL Democrats on this. This needs to be fought no matter who your candidate is. PEACE.

69. Are you sure they are not?
Bush and his team ARE the new Nazis and we have been appeasing them for the last 7 years. He could be right. The guy really is a peabrain however, he must really mean those pesky A-rabs.
