My post to negate the coming ignorance...
Once Hillary finally drops out and Obama has the go ahead to run full force in the GE, he WILL of course move to the center, mainly in rhetoric and a little bit in policy. (Mainly it will be him emphasizing the very few populist positions that he has)

I am stating this now for all to see, because I predict that Clinton supporters will go ape sh%t over it. They will claim betrayal. I can see it now.

"He tricked us"
"How dare he"
"I told you we should have gone with Clinton"

Of course this is funny. Hillary has been running from the center for the nomination for a while now.

Let's not kid ourselves. Obama has to talk like a moderate in order to convince moderates and disgruntled republicans to vote for him. Remember that it is a political move necessary to become president. He will still be pushing the same progressive policies as president as he has been saying throughout the primary season. But, he has to downplay some positions in order to get the uninformed (vote once every four years) independent voters.

Expect to see this post again. I am storing it for when Clinton supporters play ignorance about candidates playing to the center in the GE.

20. Well part of growing up
politically is having your candidate break your heart. Happens like clockwork.

When it does happen, you have two choices. You can realize that this is politics and is probably something that won't change.

OR -- you can be like the Bushite die-hards and defend your candidate no matter what he does -- making up the most fantastic rationalizations about why he/she is doing the right thing.

Bush could go on national TV and beat a crippled kid to death with a bag full of newborn puppies, and there are a certain number of people who would praise him for his bold action.

4. I fully expect that.
Most candidates start talking like a moderate way before they even run. They only talk like a liberal during the primary. For instance, I would bet money that Hillary's IWR vote was made because she was looking ahead to how it would look when she ran for President, and thought it would make her appear strong.

I'm in for the long haul. No matter what, he's our best shot to improve things in many, many ways.

to weather the coming shit-storm. Keep the faith and good vibes flowing like we have in this tumultuous primary, and we'll be fine.

6. I don't see him changing his message much.
It's not like he's oozing liberalism. Yeah, they'll label him as "the most liberal senator in congress" or something like that. I can't wait to see how he handles that one.

8. i agree he'll move to the center
and probably there will be some hillary supporters who will mention it. the group i would worry about though would be all the
new democrats he brought in. that would be the voting bloc that imo will be most likely to become disenchanted. the clinton supporters will vote for him or they won't, but there's not much of a chance that they'll lose interest in the political process. the youth vote just might though.
i have no doubt that obama will bring some changes to washington, but i don't expect any any fundamental changes.
money talks, always has, always will.

10. He'll have to come a long way toward center to win my vote.
Unless, of course, Hillary is on the ticket with him. In that case I would trust her to look out for us moderates.... while Barack continues his flirtation with the lefties.

12. if the biggest voting block in America, uneducated whites won't vote
for Obama, then we are left with two choices. We can vote for "the way things OUGHT to be" and possibly lose, or we can accept the fact that America is a terribly racist country, and run our white candidate and possibly win.

I'm not happy that I live in a terribly racist country, I suppose you aren't, either, but the question has become, "Do we want to win or do we want to make a point?"

13. ummm...
National polling shows Hillary and Obama pulling the same amount of uneducated whites against McCain.

Primary results are not a good indicator of GE results.

17. If that was the case
Joe Biden or John Edwards would be the nominee because they offend no one.

Hillary brings the same negatives to the table as Barack does because of her history in the Clinton Whitehouse.

18. "He WILL of course move to the center...."
He's already in the center; sometimes to the right of center. When he moves for the GE, he'll be closer to the right wing than ever.`

:puke:

The "change" that I see him bringing to the Democratic Party is a wholesale move to the right. It's not a positive change.

Which is why I've never supported him.

I'm also not a Clinton fan or supporter.

It IS a betrayal. A betrayal on the part of Democratic voters, who I'm still quite bitter towards.
