Obama: I will debate Bush and McCain "ANY TIME, ANY PLACE"
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama angrily accused President George W. Bush and John McCain of "fear-mongering" to deceive voters about Republican foreign policy failures.

Cataloging what he termed the "failed policies that John McCain wants to double down," Obama responded to yesterday's remarks by Bush in Israel that Democrats interpreted as accusing the Illinois senator of favoring appeasement of terrorists.

At a campaign stop in South Dakota, Obama also said McCain is abandoning his pledge to bring a civil tone to the campaign by questioning the Democrat's fitness to protect the U.S.

"If George Bush and John McCain want to have a debate about protecting the United States of America, that is a debate I am happy to have at any time, any place," Obama said. "That is a debate I will win because George Bush and John McCain have a lot to answer for."

I love the technique of mentioning Bush and McCain in the same breath. :)

1. You know it's particuarly interesting that he's offering to take them both on

I very much doubt it'll happen, but how great would it be to see him rip into Bush on everything from his failed policies in Iraq to his contempt for the constitution?

And something else has just struck me...every day that goes by is another day Democrats can say 'George Bush doesn't even have to run for office again - what's he scared of? Doesn't he want to defend his policies?'.

Edited to add that it would be great if we could get up a petition to put pressure on Bush for debate. Somehow I don't think he and Cheney are feeling as secure as they were 24 hours ago.

I don't think he's going to have a problem fighting the GOP, somehow.

7. Have you seen McCainiac in a debate? Jaw droppingly bad.
And Obama is quite good in debates. No, he's not as good as Hillary, but he's leagues better than McCainiac. And he's improved a lot over the season. Thanks Hill.

10. Understand that Obama held back against Hillary for the sake of party Unity...something Hillary

doesnt understand....he is a very good planner and his winning the nomination would have alienated mroe hillbots if he went on a scorched earth approach against her, like she has done

Going up against mccain is another story..he wont hold back, and as we have seen recently, many of the press have praised him for his prompt, strong attacks against the gop

12. Earlier critical of his lets get along with Repugs.
Obama hardly our first choice. His progams are just not ours. / So he revise his earlier, lets just overlook the right wing hold on the GOP; then, the future will look rosier. The likes of Grover Norquist and the neocons, must not be compromised with , but defeated. Earliest clues are that Obama might be more of a fighter than John Kerry was?

6. Conflating (rightly) Bush and McCain is going to be a major focus of Obama's campaign
McCain seems to be trying to sit on both sides of the fence - he sucks up to Bush in an attempt to win over Bush's 27%, while at the same time distancing himself from Bush to try to get the rest. It's not going to work.

9. All Obama
or any Democrat has to do is run campaign ads of McCain being stupid and/or contradicting himself - over and over again. They don't even need to waste new video tape.

It's good that he is now, since McCain has started to try and distance himself from Bush.
