How do you think the Dems will resond to the Repug Convention?
The Repugs will trot out moderates like Schwarznegger and Guliani and "Democrats" like Zell Miller to try to show themselves as a moderate party representing a cross-section of American values. They'll trot out lots of soldiers and probably have a video of soldiers in Iraq talking about how great it is to help the Iraqi children. Ther will be no terror alerts, unless of course it's part of the script to "stay the course." The Repugs will lie through their teeth, and appear very nice and worthy. The media will fawn on them, and pundits will make favorable comparisons to the Democratic convention.

Is there anything the Dems and their supporters can do? Do you think anyone has anything up their sleeve.

1. ...and the media will respond by
kissing their collective asses - and, with a quick disclaimer as to how the 'moderates' may or may not be representative of the party, will note the dramatic 'permanent' shift to the center, and interview all these 'reasonable' folks after each segment. For the Dems, they would have one far-right guy after another - like that creep Gillespie, RIGHT AFTER KERRY'S SPEECH. For the Repugs, they'll probably have Christie Whitman, extolling the values of the inclusive Repugs.

I can smell it coming - and what would a day be without Tweety gushing about somebody's 'manliness' a Re-thug trait. Yich.

2. How aggressive are the Democrats willing to be in rebutting Republicans?
The Republicans set up a "war room" at our convention and relentlessly slammed every one of our speakers and events.

Will we have the balls to do the same to them?

Of course the media will be biased, but that's why Democrats have to stand up and make themselves heard.

3. I believe that the Dems will do this, however
what will resonate with the 'undecideds'(!) is how the celebrity journalists respond to the rebuttal. If Timmy, Tweety, and Tommy Brokaw give that overarching skepticism to the Dems and ask those famous negative questions (You can't say that you don't think...) the perception will be that the Dems' arguments are invalid.

Remember that the messengers have more star-power than the politicos.

9. DNC announced Bush Truth Squad
http://www.democrats.org/news/200408030002.html

<snip>

Washington, D.C. - The Democratic National Committee announced the members and the mission of the Bush Truth Squad today. The Truth Squad is comprised of members of Congress, a General, a fellow Vietnam skipper, and other experts committed to presenting Bush's true record of misleadership and setting the record straight when John Kerry is wrongly attacked.

"George W. Bush is trying to gloss over the results of his failed economic policies, which are squeezing the middle class," said U.S. Representative Dick Gephardt. "America deserves the truth."

The Bush Truth Squad will hold events in the same cities President Bush holds campaign events to ensure that the truth is told about the Bush record of failed policies and misleadership. The Truth Squad will also stand at the ready to defend John Kerry's record of strength and service and to tell the truth about the Kerry-Edwards plan to make America stronger at home and more respected in the world.

In their first week the Bush Truth Squad will be busy:

They will release the first Truth Squad video with a timeline contrasting the lives of John Kerry with that of George W. Bush.

Skip Barker, a fellow skipper who served in Vietnam with John Kerry, will visit Dallas, Texas, today via satellite interviews, while George W. Bush raises money in Dallas with his big oil buddies.

The first truth squad trip will flight Friday as Squad members visit battleground states on the heels of George W. Bush's campaign stops.

4. Ugh.
You're probably right about them having hours of video testimonials of soldiers in Iraq, lauding the Bush team for "liberating" Iraq. What sickens me about this is...the Republicans have the monopoly on access to those soldiers. There's no way a Democratic operative is going to be allowed to go to Iraq to conduct anti-Bush interviews.

5. This Dem's response will probably be...
:wtf:

Can't wait to hear the things those Repugs make up.

"We won the war!" (So why are our troops still dying left and right?)
"The economy's great!" (So why are there ill so many people unemployed?)
"We need to uphold the morals of this nation." (Twisted though they have become.)

I'm sure there will be waaaay more Dems protesting in NYC than there were Repugs in Boston.
